The banner advert for "Microsoft Train Simulator" that runs across the top - this seriously had me in stitches laughing.

Pics of a thermos, anorak and a notebook with "Leave them at home this weekend".
I like that, having voiced my opinion of a game where....*drumroll*...are you ready?....drive a train.

No, that's not all!
You can be a passenger!!!!
Oooooh, the thrills of 21st century gaming eh kids?
Just imagine it, you can look out of some windows and see terrain roll past!
Easy now, I know this seems like the dreams of a madman, but someone has managed to come up with a game to allow you this giddy thrill.

The driving option has "dials and levers you can operate".
The numerous control options are:
Forward
Stop

So put all thoughts of Metal Gear 2, Black and White and other pathetic games from your mind.
Microsoft Train Simulator - The Next Generation of Gaming is almost upon us.

(If SR fancy a review of this from someone that isn't exactly lining up to buy this, send me a copy and I'll review it. And don't worry, it WILL be returned to you)

Yeah but the sound effects should be brilliant.

When I was young I had a dream.

I dream't of becoming THE FAT CONTROLLER.

Those were the days when Thomas the Tank Engine was written in Scottish. Or Welsh, never could tell the difference.

I once came across Teletubbies speaking in Irish.
I hate those creatures.

Ivor the Engine was Welsh

I guess that explains why he always looked like he was about to thump someone in the teeth.

Wannabe doctors could put the Train Simulator on for 20 minutes or so, to simulate their journey to work, then play Theme Hospital for 72 consecutive hours, put the Train Simulator on for the 20minute ride home, sleep for 6 hours, then do it all over again!

Wannabe city mayors could play the train simulator for a bit, then Sim City for 2 minutes. They could then go out to lunch, and put in an expense claim for it, and plan a 2 month holiday in Jamaica, looking for the ideal city to twin with. All expenses paid.

I'm not sure virtual kick backs hold the same feel good factor... :)

Here is my idea for the adverts:

What do you do between re-installing your system?
Where do you go once your desktop preferences are set?
What's next after you've found those lost files?

It's new from Microsoft
A whole new meaning to the word "CRASH"
Microsoft Train Simulator

Wooo Wooo!

The Commercial:

Fade in:Dark Bedroom

A lonely boy sits at his desk, his almost assembled Starship Enterprise kit before him.
A voice floats up from downstairs, it is the boy's mother

MUM
"Are you going out tonight?"

The kid closes his eyes and a tear slips down his cheek

KID
"No mum, not tonight"

The kid sweeps his model from the desk with his arm and turns on his PC.
The glow from the monitor is reflected in his shimmering, tear filled eyes as we see a small bedroom, no pictures, obsessionally clean and neat.

A smile flickers across his face as the game begins, we can only see the game reflected on his face as we look over the monitor at his maudlin visage.
The sounds of trains fill the soundtrack, along with the jeering of children's playground laughter.

VOICE-OVER MAN
"It's ok, you don't need those other kids to be happy."

The Microsoft Train Simulator packaging is displayed with the tagline:

Train Simulator - No need to feel alone anymore
