Anyway, I've not really a clue about what I need to protect myself from being screwed over by some angry hacker who is looking for world domination.
I've heard the integrated XP firewall is rubbish or something.
We've got 2 computer, connected via router setup etc.
So, what software do I need to be safe and stuff?

Some routers already have a firewall. On the software side, all you need is ZoneAlarm, a virus checker and Spybot S&D.
