Huzzah, 1mb Broadband is activated. It's joyous.
Anyway, I've not really a clue about what I need to protect myself from being screwed over by some angry hacker who is looking for world domination.
I've heard the integrated XP firewall is rubbish or something.
We've got 2 computer, connected via router setup etc.
So, what software do I need to be safe and stuff?

Mmm this is the advantage of just letting your router do the firewalling, because your external network is secure, but your internal network is fine.
Only problem with Zone Alarm is that sometimes it blocks your network connection but mainly in a peer to peer set up, might be ok via a router, but if you do have any probs seeing the other pc then you know what it is.
If it makes you feel any better that you knew something that I didn't,then feel free to dig away as I don't mind. But hordes of internet users don't know about/have routers, and most of those don't really care or need the hassle for such a thing.

ZoneAlarm, like Internet Explorer, ONLY (repeat, ONLY) exists because the gross majority of Internet users are morons and do not know any better. They don't even know there is any better. Sadly though, this is a problem that isn't ever going to get solved without some serious public education. And even then it probably won't work, as demonstrated by the grandmother+firefox syndrome. I think what TBN was getting at was that all routers are effectively a firewall due to the nature of their operation.
