Huzzah, 1mb Broadband is activated. It's joyous.

Anyway, I've not really a clue about what I need to protect myself from being screwed over by some angry hacker who is looking for world domination.

I've heard the integrated XP firewall is rubbish or something.

We've got 2 computer, connected via router setup etc.

So, what software do I need to be safe and stuff?
Cheers.

Yeah it is simple. From what Azul said - he had a router, and needs protection. Some routers have firewalls built in, but I don't know if he has it. The first sentence I say indicates this. I then go on to list some software that will prevent malware, which is what Azul wanted from his "safe and stuff" comment. Therefore I list the programs that can do this.

What's going on, eh?

No, it's simple, look:

You think ZoneAlarm is worth installing, ergo, you are wrong.

Azul no, your router will be a perfectly fine level of protection. All I have protecting my static IP from the Internet is a Linux NAT router, which acts as a firewall by nature, and I've never had a single virus or break in in three years.

What I said wasn't wrong in the least, so I don't see the problem. Other than winning yourself a few geeky brownie points, in which case, well done.

I agree as well. If you have NAT on the router that will give you protection. The Windows XP firewall is also good. I have Norton Firewall installed and tested both firewalls on the Norton test site and the Windows XP firewall gave the same results as the Norton firewall.

Icarus doesn't know what he's talking about. Your router is a perfectly adequate firewall. The Windows integrated firewall is excellent and under no circumstances should you install ZoneAlarm.

And I'll have no arguments because I'm right, I know I'm right and anyone who disagrees is ignorant.

Don't make me prove you wrong.
