I am getting engaged within the next 3 weeks, I haven't decided when I should do it or how I should do it. I have two ways in my mind that I can propose to my girlfriend, the first one is to propose to her on our 6th month anniversary as we are going to a nice restaurant that night to celebrate six months of being together, the restauarant would be a nice place to propose, a more traditional (and boring) way of proposing, then again I'm not exactly a traditional and boring guy. So my other way of proposing was to do it at the anime convention we are going to, do it at the karaoke which is being held there, you know, change the words of a song so that it comes out as 'will you marry me' I just don't know what way I should propose, I think that if I did it at the convention that it would make our first anime convention much more memorable, either way I know that my girlfriend will be very pleased but I'm unsure of the best way, any thoughts?

I was just saying how it seems getting engaged is the new pokémon (hence the cliché comment)

Fiancé! Gotta catch em' all!

announcing an engagement at an anime convention :) I think it was done during the last one, both were 18. Not sure if they are still together, the guy was from somehere in Scotland the girl from London, there was much moving back and forth choosing who would give up what. Can't remember what they decided in the end but I think it was a big mess. Though they might still be very happy. A lot of people were happy and cheered for them but I'm sure some people were obviously thinking "hmm they're only 18 this wont last".

I would like to think that those who can offer good experience are the ones that have been through it. I'm 24 and have been in several relationships. There has always been talk of getting married. Sure you can get engaged but I suppose you dont have to get married straight away some people are engaged for a very long time. Now setting a date for the wedding now that would be a bit too soon. If you just want to get engnaged for now then that's perfectly fine. Good luck to you.

Hmm if Trish were still here I'm sure she would have some good advice. Well anyway good luck to you mate :) I'd see you at the anime convention but I'm not going to any this year. Have a wonderful time though.

Here's my two cents on why there is negativity;

I think it is fair to say that many of us here have higher goals or aspirations in life than simply finding a partner and living together/getting married - in fact I'd say that for some of us that situation, at our age, is more akin to a nightmare. To many of us doing that at our age (talking anything from 16-late 20's here) restricts us in terms of freedom and financially. Sure, we see people, go out etc, but mention marriage and we'd run a mile.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get, I certainly know my old Uni mates felt that way and one of them had seen his girlfriend since he was 16.

No worries Black Hole :)

I've been there myself - I was lucky to have hit the jackpot as it were. I hope you do too.
