And to be honest... it'll be quite a fair responce...
All the same...
Sony have decided to go ahead with the PS2.1...
What does this mean for current PS2 owners?
Whats going to happen with the future titles?
I have no idea what the alteration in the spec is... so I'm not sure what the implications are...
Anyone know what the changes are... and what this entails for the PS2 public?
I haven't seen anything concerning an 'upgraded PS2', the only changes that have been made to the PS2 in Japan is that Sony are only producing Ps2's with internal HDD bays, rather than the original one's which would require an external HDD.
First I heard that this new chip that's been talked about MIGHT be in the PS3, or it might form part of the HDD/Broadband upgrade - no where have I heard that Sony are making a 'new and improved' PS2.
All the comments concerning makeing it easier to program for or removal of the PS1 I/O chip is merely guess work and rumour, I don't know about you, but I prefer to work with FACTS!
What has really irritated me though is that all the sony-phobes have jumped on the bandwagon and stated that it'll cost £300 and everyone who has a PS2 will have to buy a new console etc etc etc.......
It's all rubbish!! We have no source for this info, no announcement; nothing.
So why don't we all get on with out lives and stop wondering about something that has no factual basis about it what so ever......
One final point; who anyone really be as stupid as to make 10 million PS2's irrelevant and thus alienate all the 'early-adoptors' and loyal fans!!? I think not.
Sony have most definitely come up with a superior chip with more on-board memory. The only question is how that will be incorporated into the PS2; i.e. whether there will be a completely 'new' model with the chip replacing the current version, or an add-on for existing PS2's, or both.

If it is indeed a whole new console. That's the point I'm trying to make - no-one knows for sure what is happening yet, so this is all speculation.
If there are changes that prevent games from working, then an official announcement will be necessary. If none of the changes affect existing games, then it will just be the same as the changes made to the original PlayStation, in which case you don't need to buy a new console, making the whole issue largely irrelevant.
If anyone has any *official* news on this subject, please let us know.

£30 vs. £300? I think the expansion pak wins!

You forget starfighter and Timesplitters! I'm not even a Sony fan - I hate them!

Me too, and the PSX. The Psone could have been god, but the screen is so damn expensive. But I must admit the PS2 has a LOT of good points! But, a LOT of bad. Better luck next time Sony!!!
I like sega and Ninty but i just can't bring myself to like sony. I have a PS2 and quite frankly i think it's crap. the only 2 games that are good on it are ZOE and SSX there will be a third when MGS2 comes out but thats about it. The thing is i liked the PSX but i just don't like the PS2.
To conclude it's not Sony in general that i dislike it's the PS2 and all of it's faults.
