It proves that Americans can't really make decent Office-style comedy.
The British originals have already been screened in America, to mass critical acclaim and many awards - they loved them.

I think it proves nothing other than the fact you can't take what is essentially a very British comedy and Americanize it. They did the same with Fawlty Towers and messed that up too.
All that this proves is that the Americans do not understand the British sense of humour. I personally found the Office to be brilliant and incredibly funny.
But then, the Americans did create Friends, possibly the least funny comedy ever made.

Just goes to show the Yanks are too dumb to understand this level of comedy.

The Office is brilliant, at least the original British version is. Some of the pure moments of awkwardness and hilarity stemming mainly from David Brent and Gareth were genius, and it didn't try and be big headed and go on for too long either. It did have a limited lifespan, but it lasted for exactly the right time, Fawlty Towers style.
