Perfect in everyway.
From music, sound effects, graphics, gameplay, challenge, hundreds of secret area's and a great tag-team idea with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
As those of you who have played it will know, DK64 was not it's true 3D incarnation.
It lacked the jungle feel, you didn't bounce on enemies and it was more of an adventure rather than a platformer.
I think that the true 3D incarnation of DKC was the original Crash Bandicoot with it's simple A - B, jump on the heads of enemies, only 1 or 2 moves structure.
Dringo seems to think that a conker style adventure would be a better idea.
What does everyone else think?
It's like Perfect Dark 0 on the Gamecube turning you into a diplomat, tyring to resolve peace through words rather than guns.
It would still be a good game but it just wouldn't be Perfect Dark anymore.
Donkey Kong County's best characteristics included the platforming, the music, the bosses (one thing DK64 DID get right), the barrel rolling and the difficulty and fustration.
Bouncing on a raven and hearing it squawk what another great thing.
The problem with DK64 was that it threw out nearly all traditional platforming elements.
Crash Bandicoot was a much better example of Donkey Kong Country made 3D.
Admittedly, the simple A - B would be fairly un-inspiring in this wounderous technological age but I can trust Rare to do it in a very interesting way.
So make it pretty linear in an A-B sort of way but do it in a way so that players won't realise (like Conkers Bad Fur Day and Zelda 64 - both linear, both hide it incredibly well).
As for Conkers Bad Fur Day. Brilliant game and idea but they style of going around the levels like that sorting problems worked superbly for the little squirrel, but its not DK's style.
Anyway, back to the main point. I will have to disagree. DK64 was absolutely superb. I loved it. But then again, I admit, I've never played on the SNES version. By the sounds of it, it was rather, umm - good? ;-)
Shocktrooper.
Although I don't think that it would have to be as linear as Crash.
I think Rare can find a good balance.
> Edgy, something like Crash would be fine.
I didn't say it wouldn't be!
Anyway I have played Crash Bandicoot once, and I can't wait for it's GBA and GC releases (the games haven't been made for the Ninty systems yet-as far as I know-but are ment to be coming onto them soon!)
I'm sure they'll know exactly what to do from there!
