I thought about that, but the problem is people can have it for weeks and month's before they know anything about it.
I think some of you are forgetting the dire situation in Africa. It's harsh, but it would eradicate the disease for good.
Or at least until someone screwed a monkey again.
People can still lead a decent life with HIV and some people have develloped immunity. And even those that were destined to die, they would want to make the most of what life they had left.
And whether all those millions of people dying would be for good or not, not my decision to make. :-)
Aids may well be contagious, but it's also avoidable. Taking sufficient precuations will halt the spread of the disease significantly enough that mass eradication of all carriers isn't justifiable.
If it were as contagious as the common cold though, then I'd say the button should be pressed.
Would you have a tattoo done at the same place where they mark Aids victims?

That argument could be applied to the case for 'pressing the button', if you believe stopping the disease would be for the greater good.
Personally, I couldn't do it.
Would it be for the greater good? I guess that depends on the future, whether we can come up with better treatment, maybe even a cure.
I'm not about to give up hope.
But even if it was for the greater good, I just don't think I could bring myself to do it.
However, to soften the options a little, what if you could force all AIDs carriers to be tatooed (ignoring practical difficulties, such as detection, for a second), perhaps around the goin or something (discrete but clear before sex)?
Of course sex isn't the only means of transmission, but it's the main one by a long way, right?
