So I downl ... procured Ave Maria by Beethoven, one of my favourite classical tracks. I also have the excellent soundtrack to the truman show, which features some more golden tunes.

But I haven't a clue where to look for decent music of this genre. Can anyone recommend any particular compilations available on CD?

Cheers

Get the LOTR soundtracks.

Yes. All 3 of them.

"Accquire" 'Le Onde' (which confuses me, because technically it should be L'Onde. But it isn't) by Ludivico Einaudi.

Seriously, it's excellent.

And "Jupiter" by Gustav Holst, or any other The Planets for that matter.

Was the Truman Show soundtrack composed by Phillip Glass?

Classical music is way too under-rated these days, especially by young people. I recently discovered a Metallica album which features many of their classic tracks (including 'Enter Sandman' and the legendary 'Master of Puppets') accompanied by a full symphony orchestra!!! And i can quite honestly say that not only did it kick-ass, but also blew the b*llox off the original recordings. I myself am a dedicated metal fan, but after working in a shop that specialises in classical CDs, not only can i now tolerate orchestral muse, but i also quite enjoy listening to some particular pieces. Just shows what varied musical tastes people can have today, prime example of course being Jamie Cullum: an ex-metal-head who was in to Rage Against The Machine, Guns 'N' Roses, Iron Maiden and Jimi Hendrix, but now a very famous jazz pianist (He even cut a Hendrix track on his debut album :-D ).

Hmm ... difficult to recommend actual CD's 'cos most classical stuff is old and therefore not copyrighted so they're loads of CD's around with various collections on.

One of my favourite's is Gustav Holst's The Planets.

things like gladiator soundtrack our probablyreallygood.

Barber's Adagio for strings (used as the "platoon" theme) is my favourite classical track. (the dance version wasn't bad either)

Oh and I have to recommend that Truman Show Soundtrack by the way. One of the best CD's I ever bought.

I want the soundtrack to that film Koyonisqatsi or whatever it was called too.
