I find it horribly fascinating, and also terrifying. I guess it's one of those things that plays on some fear (obviously) but for some reason has far more impact than other scary things and things that burst out of chests in the night.
It's just brilliantly created. It's perfectly suited to using and killing humans, it's just lethal, or the next evolutionary step as the comics keep on blabbering. I've never really seen the films, more bits of them, and just the hive, the corruption they induce in such an emotionless state of instinct......it's incredible what effect it has on me. I guess I really should watch more of the films, but to be perfectly honest, I'm scared of the beggars.
The main thing is the contrast between the humans - the way humans are always running about, AR/Flamethrower in hand and narking the odd alien, while the Alien themselves are fast, lethal, and yet are not 'bad' as such - they are just 'better' at killing their enemies and unfortunatly, the two race's instincts do not match up peacefully.
Then it's the impregnation, the bursting, the goo-y stuff and the queen..in one bit of a comic I was reading, there is a huge alien 'thing' on strands hanging between buildings, while deranged humans drag victims to it because 'it's better than surviving'.
Ughhhh! Not really sure what this is, but I guess most people have some sort of irrational fear of stuff, fictional (I hope!) or not, and Alien, a bit like the Nazgul, are absoloutely captivating, but for all the wrong reasons...

Just joshing wi' ya.
It's going to be called Alien 5: watch em jump and jive
Somehow the Aliens make it to Earth and after a comedy of errors, end up running a dance studio. They succeed in the end but intially their presence is not welcomed by the local people, who are very xenophobic. The Aliens have to overcome both their ability to tap dance AND people's irrational prejudice toward "different" life forms; who are birthed by ripping through a humans' body cavities, and have acid for blood.
Aliens is the best of allllll your ásses.
It’s because there was someone called Hudson (the best of allllll surnames) who killed things.
Alien > Aliens > Alien 3 > Alien Resurrection
The extended version (it's not a director's cut since he has disowned the film) basically fills in the gaps and made Alien 3, to me, quite an enjoyable film.
Alien bores me, Aliens is amazing, Alien 3 is alright and Alien Resurrection makes me laugh for all the wrong reasons.

It was the 2-disc edition that shipped with the Alien Quadrilogy Box Set and has 30 minuted extra footage. I have to say, Alien 3 was never my favourite of the Alien series, but the new cut has been getting some good reviews so may be worth chacking out. In the meantime, you can pre order it here> http://www.playserver4.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=160171&p=57&c=&g=72 it's due out on the 12th.

I didn't realise there was a different version - I'll look for it.

Oh. No.

The producers' edition of Alien 3 is supposed to be really good (assuming you liked the first film). It inserts much of the cut footage that Fincher was forced to take out in the "theatrical" version.
Alien 5: Earth Hive better be good.
