RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR DDDD D D D D
(That was my chainsaw sound)

Anyways.
Has anyone seen both versions?

Obviously the original is the better of the two, but what I want to know is if the re-make is worth buying on DVD?
I'll probably get it anyway, just y'know to feed the addiction.

So,
Is it any good?
Does it matter if I haven't seen the original?
Did you like my chainsaw sound?
Is it just Scream 19 only with chainsaws?
Should I buy the original too and make myself watch it and have nightmares for until I'm 30?

The original is a dirty, grubby little home-movie thing with lots of screaming, characters behaving sensibly in a situation - trapped in a room with a maniac family? I'm diving out that 2nd floor window, who cares - it's oppressive, dark, viscious and all the better for the sheer lack of "....BOO!" moments.
It's unsettling from the get-go,with the insane hitch-hiker being mental and doesn't relent until the final shot of Leatherface twisting around in the road with frustration.

The new version is yet another teen slasher flick - replete with "...wait....wait....BOO!" moments a-plenty that turn it from a hardcore mind-assault of threat into "The nubile chick in the vest in the freezer room turned on water for no discernible reason"...*yawn*...
The beginning and end capture the tone of the original very well (the cop bits), but the rest is eMpTyV-lite horror.
It even has a guy with his leg cut-off from the knee dangling on a spike through his spine for what appears to be the entire evening without dying, simply to provide a ".....BOO!" moment.

It's awful. I saw it at the weekend and thought "That was alright I s'pose", but I've since realised it's a film version of the short stories that the teeny goreheads write here endlessly.
Avoid.

The first TCM is a horrible little movie, made me feel genuinely uncomfortable watching it, like a snuff movie or something. Far too much screaming for my liking.

Has anyone seen both versions? Yup

Obviously the original is the better of the two, but what I want to know is if the re-make is worth buying on DVD? I borrowed the DVD, there's not a whole lot in the way of extras but theres the story of the texas chainsaw massacre which, if after 2 hours of film you didnt get it, it explains it for you. I'd prefer a book though.

I'll probably get it anyway, just y'know to feed the addiction.
Just buy some vodka and crack instead

So,
Is it any good?
It's alright, nothing special - I actually liked it better than the original though

Does it matter if I haven't seen the original? No, it's not a sequel it's just a remake of the same story

Did you like my chainsaw sound?

Yes

Is it just Scream 19 only with chainsaws? No it's not cliqued as much as scream, although scream kind of made the cliques. Erm, no, it's better. The killer is a bit scarier and there is a superb locker scene. Hehehe - argh

Should I buy the original too and make myself watch it and have nightmares for until I'm 30? The original isn't at all scary, it made me flinch once.

Wanna be scared, watch the ring when you're drunk.

I got it by accident.

I can either open it and keep it.

Or send it back.

So yeah, like Mystique said.
