Some interesting call-ups for the Sweden game. Robert Green is in, Shaun-Wright Phillips is too.

Does anyone have a full list of the squad?

Alan Thompson deserved a call up a few seasons ago. Quite simply he is the best British left sided player there is.

Chris Sutton also deserves a call up having played fantastically for the past 2 years, although he is just back from a few weeks out at the moment.

But as usual, moment you play in Scotland you lose most chance of a call up, even if you make it to the UEFA cup final. Although I think even Erikson had to admit that Celtic aren't a bad team after they put out Barca.

I think Rob Green should start the game as he is probably the long term England replacement anyway.

Rob Green is a goalkepper.

Great to see Samuel in the squad. He's had a great season for Villa so far.
I'm not sure why Sven keeps leaving Barry out the squad. People moan about the left hand side, so why not try Barry who's a natural left footer.

Here's who I'd start:

GK James
DL Samuel
DC Terry
DC Woodgate
DR Mills
ML Thompson
MC Jenas
MC Parker
MR Beckham (C)
ST Smith
ST Heskey

Not sure where Rob Green plays, but I'd bring him on in the second half. I'd play Beckham the whole match.

Second half

GK Robinson (James off)
DL Gardner (Samuel off)
DC Green (Terry off)
DC Southgate (Woodgate off)
DR Carragher (Mills off)
ML Thompson
MC Gerrard (Jenas off)
MR Wright-Phillips (Parker off)
MC Beckham (C)
ST Rooney (Smith off)
ST Vassell (Heskey off)

England's first team for Euro 2004 should look like this:

GK:- David James (Man City)
DR:- Gary Neville (Man Utd)
DC:- Sol Campbell (Arsenal)
DC:- Gareth Southgate (M'boro)
DL:- John Terry (Chelsea)
MR:- David Beckham (Real Madrid)
MC:- Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
ML:- Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
AM:- Paul Scholes (Man Utd)
FW:- Michael Owen (Liverpool)
FW:- James Beattie (Southampton)

Finally England have called up a good left winger in Alan Thompson. My first team would be:

GK:- David James (Man City)
DR:- Danny Mills (Leeds/Mboro)
DC:- John Terry (Chelsea)
DC:- Gareth Southgate (M'boro)
DL:- Phil Neville (Man Utd)
MR:- David Beckham (Real Madrid)
MC:- Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
MC:- Nicky Butt (Man Utd)
ML:- Alan Thompson (Celtic)
FW:- Darius Vassell (Aston Villa)
FW:- Alan Smith (Leeds)

Then there would be the subs bench, which would have almost everybody else on. Why isn't Owen, Lampard or Scholes in the team though?

How many captains? 2 at a guess 3 at most. imagine it will be beckhame till half time, then southgate, if he doesn't get taken off. john terry will probably be next inline i imagine.

that is the worst england defensives squad i have ever seen.

its unbeleivably weak, only terry and southgate are anywhere near top notch.

Pleased about wright-phillips, might be intesresting to stick him on the left, he's got the pace and flair to make up for him not being left footed and it could have interesting results.
