We really needed a thread for the world's premier type of music, so I created one, and here it is.

Rock on!

If you like Opeth, then I'd heartily reccomend some Porcupine Tree.

They're like a mix of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Opeth.

I've been listening to some Opeth recently. "Black Rose Immortal" stands out from the rest. One of the best songs I've ever heard.

Just been watching some of the music channels and realised the fact that in my pubescant years, my music taste was rubbish.

Rubbish

I mean come on, I used to like Limp Bizkit for christs sakes. Reality check - They're crap. Awful awful band, stupidly low tuned guitars (that are getting to bass-guitar kind of lowness, which is gay) and a twunt for a singer.

Sorry, just noticed by taste in music has matured since back then.

I was so naive.

Hehe, yeah, Slayer's solos don't exactly sound well thought through. They do work though... I mean, the rest of the song is usually pretty chaotic.

Not all DM bands are about brutal music though. Cannibal Corpse and Deicide are pretty extreme examples.

Ah, now the guitar parts, yeah thats different. Thats where I can see the difference between UB and other bands, the riff's usually just low, muted chords. Deicide have some good solos though, but theyre all in the sort of Slayer-ish lets-see-how-many-note-i-can-fit-in-to-8-bars style, more randomised than melodic.

'Someone' was me, it doesn't take much effort to look down 3 posts...

Agreed to an extent on the vocals, the guy from CC takes it a hell of a lot further but yeah it is all pretty much monotone growling. But those riffs, especially in the intro, carry a lot of melody. Or at least, a lot more than Deicide or Canibal Corpse do.

But death metal never has a melody. Neither does Utopia Banished from the song someone said to listen to. Its all random mono-tone screaming pitched somewhere in the realms of the bottom string on a bass guitar. A' la Cannibal Corpse, Deicide etc.
