Suprised no one's made a topic on this already, but tis out today. I haven't got it yet - in the last month I've bought Wario, Resi and Splitters and they've kinda left me low on cash.

Those who got it today/have already imported (Psycho Fox, WS etc.), is it worth my money? I'm an RPG fan as ye may know, but an RPG fan slightly put off by all this card fighting business. So.. verdicts anyone?

At most times whenever you hear Lyude talk you can just tell that the actor who is speaking for him is just reading the script, but is not "becoming" Lyude, the others are doing quite well and the voice actor who plays Mizuti is definetly doing a great job coz it doesn't sound at all like any normal person does, which is what the character needed to be.

Also Deathbeard in Golden Sun although he was one of the most challenging bosses in the first game i mst admit, in all 8 of the times I have played through the game I never died on the first try against Deathbeard, even on my very first game. Wheras Duhallan in GS2 was like Deathbeard in oh so many ways, but he was almost invincible and had the most really really annoying tactic that could only be done in a game where bosses were solely beaten by Djinn monsters in ready mode, he made all the Djinn for 3 out of 4 characters turn to charging mode (the one straight after use where they cannot be used again for 1 turn each) even if you had all 9 ready for summoning. This also really affect my healers that need 4 standby Djinn (ones in normal mode) so that they could cast their entire party healing spell Wish, without that spell it all goes downhill from there.

Anyway back to BK, just got to another difficult boss fight (they become quite frequent in their difficulty once you get to the 40th hour or so), but this one has a fire type creature and a water type creature against 3 of you, the odds may still be in your favour but not when they can either Freeze you or set you on fire (costing you extra health each turn without curing). Still quite difficult even with their average health meters compared to the last 2 fights I had.

I ahte him because of his card, I can't distinguish light from dark quickly and end up clashing them.

yeah i don't like him either, having the worst voice over ever doesn't help. i didn't like zelos from ToS much either. maybe im just anti gingers(i don't know if vibrant red hair counts as ginger though). although his trumpet gun is the shiz and i like concerto.

PLaying this, great game. Just passed the wind shrine. All great apart from the fact that Lyude sucks assballs.

i think the original golden sun was a complete classic. it had all the elements of a great RPG and i'd put it in my top 3 GBA games(with fire emblem and astroboy). the only problem with having all 4 characters in each battle is that it can make the battle too simple for some gamers. compare it to baten kaitos. i just had to fight the guy who is invincible to dark element and all other elemental damage only does half damage. this kinda boss leaves the gamer with a decision. personally, i used kalas, gibari and savyna because i thought xelha only has elemental damage and lyude has quite a few dark spells. im only trying to use this as an example but in golden sun there is no decision. u have your 4 guys and u have to use them whether u like it or not. and if u die to a boss?(i found that death guy on the pirate ship tricky, what was his name?) then u can't choose different party members and try a completely different approach. i know its not a big problem but some gamers like the freedom to choose their party.
as for the battle system well i thought golden sun's one was very well put together its just it wasn't the most daring. it was a tried and tested system that the designers knew would work. thats why im glad to see monolith created a brand new system from scratch. at the end of the day its probably not as good as the FF/Golden sun system's (iron already picked up on some flaws) but i think they deserve to be credited for sheer orginality and trying to give an old genre a breath of fresh air.
phew Tami's tired after all that typing >.<

I actually prefer the turn based system that the game Golden Sun used, in it you have 4 characters that you can choose their attacks before ANYTHING happens and the same goes for the enemy, and bosses may eventually get 2 turns to my 4. This system involves a lot of tactics and the knowledge which of your characters move faster than the other. Plus you only say with the same 4 characters unlike in a FF game, which i don't particularly like.

i think its great that monolith decided to actually think up a new battle system. they could have easily used turn-based with those time bars. i think i'd prefer the game with the card system though. hey its not perfect i admit but it is really great when u get a perfect mix of cards. and when u get 3 straights and then can't make ur mind up if u wanna break the straight or just leave it. i'm personally slightly bored of the turn-based system that have been used to often thanks to final fantasy. for me it just made ToS a lot more fun because i could appreciate the battle system more.

I've gotten used to it, once you get your characters to class 5 (Kalas should already be by then, the others on the other hand take a while to find their class up items, Savyna is last) you can fill your deck with a majority of weapons, armour and at least 10 healing items, so 20 weapons and 20 armour should be reasonable, and have one character like Xhela or Mizuti carry the highest amount of healing items. It can be quite useful to take one or two turns off for one character to heal a member of your party to keep them fresh. You may need to think your deck many times during the game to suit the challege of a particular boss fight.

Anyway want to say something about Baten Kaitos, how retarded is this battle system at times? The most annoying level has to be the one with the mirrors and spiders what the hell were Namco thinking? And I don't like the battle system so much to the traditional Turn based type and ToS's Real time based type at times when enemies are able to get 2 turns and some of my cards are blanked out whenever I need them.

Other than that it's been good but average so far storywise and I'm already on disc 2 whereas in ToS near the end of disc 1 something major actually happens.

Update: I've come up to another retarded part of the game I can't beat this boss I can't level up because I need a stupid blue flower which isn't on this level and one of the bosses has 2 turns. I'll work it out though but this is silly.

Of course .. Final Fantasy 7 is old and it was first in it's series that was Full 3D. It may not hold up nowadays but you can't compare it to todays RPG's it was superb back when it was first released and in my opinion it's the best RPG ever. That game set a benchmark for 3D RPG's or even RPG's itself.
