I started thinking about what I would have done in the same situation as my dad. Would I have gone in the shop and given the wallet in? Would you?

Of course not. Someone may have worked bloody hard to earn that £400, or it could be some kids birthday money or something. To keep it would be to be a thief.

When he called to say thanks he offered my dad some champagne. My dad didn't accept, he just said he was glad this man had got his wallet back.

Lindgren has the right idea, and even if there is no ID, just give it into the police and if no one claims it you get to have it. Or maybe you get some kind of reward. I'd offer an award if someone returned it to me.
