With Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent. That Martin Freeman. From The Office. And some hip hop guy called Mos Def as Ford Prefect. Jesus Christ. I know Adams wanted a movie, but really, this is taking the proverbial. Bill Nighy might not be too bad as Slartibartfast, but....MARTIN FREEMAN!

Freeman can't play anything else except his Office character, which was hardly funny at the best of times. That bemused/confused look just isn't funny anymore. Anyone seen Hardware? Tim from the Office in a different setting. Crap. And I thought Freeman would look too old - Dent was meant to be in his late 20s. Sam Rockwell should be cool though. He looks a bit like his character from the series, and he's a bit kooky. This could go either way really.

But Freeman isn't a bumbling fool. He's arrogant and unlovable. Arthur was so frustrated with it all but you couldn't argue that he was endearing. If Freeman plays him in the same way he's played characters in The Office and Hardware, then it'll be terrible. It worked in The Office, because he was a sort of voice of sanity. But for the Guide it'd be absolutely the worst thing ever. I'd hang myself. But not before burning every reel of the film in existence and murdering everyone who saw it so as to wipe out its memory also.

If they've cast Warwick Davis as Marvin (the guy who played Willow in the film of the same name and Wicket the Ewok in ROTJ) I can imagine that our favourite paranoid android could possibly be a little....shrunken...compared to the BBC Marvin.

And bloody hell, that picture of Zaphod on the BBC link you posted reminds me of how much I had to suspend my disbelief while watching the programme. :)

Its appalling. Simply a rubber head and not a real one at all ;)

Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast and Sam Rockwell as Zaphod are perfect (by the looks from IMDB), and I can't see a problem with a black Ford Prefect.

The thing I do have a problem with is the pre-production designs for Marvin, I just don't like it, it looks like a roboic fetus (I don't have a link at hand)

Martin. Freeman?

The one that was on Jonathan Ross?
(I was flicking the channels... I'd never watch such a travesty)
Honest.
