That thought is that if we took away all the "bad" things in life, pain, suffering, etc. completely (as most would agree is apparently what is meant to happen in heaven) then what does that leave us with? These "bad" things are what makes us, well, us!
I can only speak for myself here, but I feel that he bad things in my life are what attributed most to the definition of my character. I feel stronger inside because of some of them, and I know I have the capacity to deal with the tough issues in life.
Getting myself into scrapes let me grow as a person and gave me an understanding of situations I otherwise would not have. I have a vast amount of experience in some areas that have proved beneficial to others that have found themselves in similar circumstances, or wanted to understand these circumstances.
I guess in a way what I am trying to say is that in a perfect environment you are taking away the "silver linings", and if you take away the silver linings, all you are left with is the cloud.
Bad experiences are as important as good oens because you learn from them.
Both the good times and bad times in life have made me me, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Not to say I'm perfect, but who really wants to be perfect? :-)

That seems to sum it up perfectly !
As cruel as it might sound, it's like there needs to be bad stuff happening every day in the world.. It'd be quite hard to imagine what it's like without it all. Probably a perfect world.
Hm.. I wonder if it'll ever be nice again!
I am pleased with myself as a character and I try ferociously to stay true to my ideals and morals. If I'd had an easy life I think I'd be complacent, lazy and similar to some of these self-centred vacuous people that are all too common these days.
As Butthead once said: "You gotta have stuff that sucks so you can tell the difference and like the stuff that doesn't suck."
But then that's just me.
