With all this talk of religion, evolution, creationism and all the rest lately, one thought seemed to continuously run through my mind that as of yet I have not brought up in any of the discussions.

That thought is that if we took away all the "bad" things in life, pain, suffering, etc. completely (as most would agree is apparently what is meant to happen in heaven) then what does that leave us with? These "bad" things are what makes us, well, us!

I can only speak for myself here, but I feel that he bad things in my life are what attributed most to the definition of my character. I feel stronger inside because of some of them, and I know I have the capacity to deal with the tough issues in life.

Getting myself into scrapes let me grow as a person and gave me an understanding of situations I otherwise would not have. I have a vast amount of experience in some areas that have proved beneficial to others that have found themselves in similar circumstances, or wanted to understand these circumstances.

I guess in a way what I am trying to say is that in a perfect environment you are taking away the "silver linings", and if you take away the silver linings, all you are left with is the cloud.

Butthead wise.

Pain and stuff is like a bit of a compass. If we hadn't learnt that fire burnt us we'd go and play in it and get killed.

It's the same with everything else. You don't want to get emotionally strangled or hurt by people, so you avoid the pain. Of course, there's still adventure in everything, so you can find out more about it and if it can be removed etc or if there's anything deeper, but hey. Just enjoy yourself, no matter what.

It makes you appreciate the good in life.

Otherwise you stagnate and nothing makes you happy anymore.

Because its what drives us to improve on situations, and adversity is normally the root for inspiration.

But then, if it weren't for discomfort, we wouldn't need relief in the first place. Granted, the feeling of relief is a pleasent one... but I don't see the logic of being content, then having that feeling interrupted so that you can feel relieved. Why should anyone have to tolerate having their original feelings of being content being interrupted in the first place?

You'd like that, wouldn't you!

It's true what someone below said, relief is one of life's nicer feelings, and without discomfort first, we would not feel relief.

i used to be like that, but it doesn't bother me as much anymore and you will get to that point in your own time. You should keep in mind that all the crap we go through makes the good times all the more special.

One of the nicest feeling in life is relief, and you know what you need dicomfort first to feel relief.

Try to keep stuff in perspective, Albino-Man. That's all I can say without sounding pretentious. Things can get better, and more often than not they do, even though at times it seems that they can't.

Exactly. You wouldn't believe the way I live my life now; the lengths I go to to avoid contact with people, avoid going out in public, and how hard it is to not burst into tears every day.
