What's wrong with the background.....maybe could blend in with the bar more but.......does it matter?

Why don't you make it so you can customise the background colour? Lots of people seem to be complaining about the grey on white for posted threads. It can be done easily enough with Javascript and it will hardly affect surfing speeds.
