It was BT's slow push at agreeing with Ofcom to open their exchanges to outside companies that held the UK back. We were one of the first countries to get the original technology, but thanks to BT we are now behind most of europe.

At the moment I'm stuck with BT, which means I have to pay the 8meg price for 1.5meg (at best) because they don't give me enough monthly allowance otherwise.
When the contract runs out, i'll consider going with someone else, but by then BT might have got around to 24mb access for most people. (the plan is to have it up and running by mid 2007 and out to more people by end of 2007).
Upload speeds are a lot less because that's currently how the technology works.
Why's the upload so bad though?
Also can someone explain to me why anyone would buy a package for an 8MB connection but has a usuage limit of 2GB a month? What's the point? :S
