Well done, i agree with you completely, but one of those obsessed Christians has probably already tried to tell you that it's wrong and ends up trying to finish his argument with bible quotes, i haven't read all posts of this thread, but I am Presuming it was Forest Fan who i am describing?
It is simply a form of control that the establishment have over the masses. If you don’t do this you’ll go to hell. If you live your life the way we say, you’ll go to heaven and enjoy eternal peace. It’s a joke. The religious ‘rules’ of what is good and what is a sin were created by the people who wanted to control the majority, not by some omnipresent god who watches over us all.
Do any of you think a god who created the earth and humanity itself would want his people to live in the manner we do – war, famine etc? Of course not. Problem is that in olden times, the uneducated masses would believe what they were told, and if they were told that not following X religion would land them a lifetime of eternal damnation, then they would believe it. If you tried to start a religion now you would be classed as madman starting a cult.
Almost all the problems faced by modern society in terms of conflict are based on ancient religious beliefs. Is this what god wanted? His people to fight against each other because the way they worship is different? For neighbours to kill each other because their ancestors were taught a different belief system? I don’t think so.
The creation of religion by humans and humanities religious history represents the worst mistake we as a species ever made.
And it is all down to the minority wanting power over the majority – all they did was try and dress this up as being the will of some kind of mythical higher being.

How do you explain tongues (as in the Holy language) then?

Sorry, but that's utter, utter crap. Really, it is.
In charge, we have been the most destructive curse on this planet - through nuclear weaponry, greenhouse gas emissions, rainforest destruction, genocide of both other people and animals... the list goes on. The people in authority are incredibly short sighted.
Yet, does it not say in the Bible that the Holy Spirit runs through all of God's creation? And that if you destroy God's creation, it is against the will of God and you are destroying God?
Strange that, as in the Bible St Paul tells Christians to obey the authorities in charge, for they were put there by God.
The humans running the world? Further evidence that there is no "Holy Spirit".

And humans running the world is evidence that there is somebody all around us, watching us.
I think religion is the product of a human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. It is a way of life people adopt mainly to create a sense of well being, so that they can live their lives fully with a set aspiration and faith.
As science progresses, we are getting the answers to questions we didn't understand when religion came about. As a result, less and less people are worshipping a God and the number of atheists is rising. We are on the very brink of proving whether there is any substance behind religion at all, or if it is all truly skin-deep.
Evolution, war, death, famine, suffering, science - all are reasons ever strengthening that there really is nobody up there for us.

There we go.
And God's a placebo.

Mmmm .... ambiguous lineage.
