Well, that doesn't matter, since mgs has sold a lot more than shenmue, and I know that the thread is about the best, but now I'm talking about the most successful, and it's deffinitely not the dreamcast.
"Metal Gear Solid was the original stealth action"
"It first originated on the nes"
Huh you dont make sence and final fantasy was no where near the first rpg's out the earliest Rpg I can remember was Zork for the spectrum idiot no originality at all shenmue was one of a kind you lived the life of a man and it was on Dreamcast.

That doesn't make sense. Final Fantasy is the origin of RPG's,metal gear is the origin of stealth gaming, and they both some of the few games that strongly concentrate on the storyline as well as gameplay. They were both released on the nes for the first time before we even heard of a company called sega, and their legacy continued from nintendo to sony, and now they both share it with crystal chronicles and twin snakes for the cube and the main series of both games on ps2, where was sega in between the 80's, the 90's and now ? Offcourse you'd say sega had better games, but who cares? It wasn't as successful as Sony or Nintendo.

But not the dreamcast.

No, Final Fantasy was more popualr and it sold more copies, and that's the whole point: success, it doesn't matter which is better, Final Fantasy sold a lot more than any other dreamcast game series.

Then why mention Metal Gear Solid? It was also out on PC, and nowadays MGS is on Xbox and Gamecube as well.
