Today in Media we were analysing newspapers, tabloids and broadsheets, to see the contrast, blah blah blah.
Anyway we were reading through todays front cover and second page of The Sun and suddenly I was suffocated with anger. First of all the front page of the national newspaper, supposedly reserved for breaking news, was the story that Victoria Beckham had her hair cut. WOAH, CANCEL MY 2 O'CLOCK, I BETTER READ THIS. I don't give a damn so much it hurts!
Anyway the second page is the Sun's attempt at squashing world politics into an A4 size square so they can give a three-page spread to Victoria Beckham's barnet. There was a story about a new strain of the TB virus that was rife in Rumania, Estonia and other countries who will be joining the EU in may.
The Sun talked about these disease-ridden people 'flocking' (Excuse me but isn't that a term for livestock, not people? You racist idiots) to England to claim benefits, steal our women, jobs and leech off the NHS costing the taxpayers billions of cash that perhaps they would otherwise squander buying more daily publications containing celebrity gossip and indoctrinating filth.
The racist message obviously wasn't predominant and it was written in a reportive style but basically gave the message "foreigners come to our country", "They are ill so will claim on the NHS", "We pay for the NHS through taxes" - shock-horror the stupid fickle readers put two and two together and dislike immigrants because "The Sun says it will make us poorer and that".
This sort of racist propaganda would be better suited to 1938 Germany to spread the word of the foreign enemy. It is just a matter of time before tabloids are asking us to invade Poland.

In their own way the broadsheets are just as bad, they just do it differently. I don't really hold any of the newspapers in much regard to be honest.
I read both the Mirror and the Irish Times, a nice balance for my daily newsreading!
To be honest, I don't mind reading The Sun, sure it's a newspaper designed for people with a mentality of a 12 year old, but it's a newspaper non the less, its good for catching up with the latest news.
I just despise it when people who think they are "intelligent" and "superior" because they read a broadsheet, unlike the "commoner" scum who read the mirror, or something.

Yep, I agree, if you buy the Sun you should know what to expect and not moan about it.
Entirely your own fault for reading The Sun. Read a broadsheet newspaper like The Guardian or The Times. It costs more but you get what you pay for. Leave The Sun for the more low brow readers who wont complain that they are getting fed utter rubbish.

The Sun is evidently not the most liberal of news papers and reflects the mentality of its readership. However I do agree that Britain is becoming a bit of a one stop shop for immigrants. I'm sure some will doubtless claim that somehow "it's our fault" that many European countries being unable to create and maintain a decent economy and standard of living. However I don't think that we can maintain the standard of living in this country if there are going to be excessive strains put on it in terms of provision of health care, benefits etc.
I would be doing exactly the same as any immigrant if I was in the same situation. But there has to be a steady influx of immigrants who will provide Britain with the skills and the cultural diversity that is required, to make us a prosperous Nation.
I also think that we want to sort out our own "scroungers" first before worrying too much about the "foriegn flockers".
