Anyway we were reading through todays front cover and second page of The Sun and suddenly I was suffocated with anger. First of all the front page of the national newspaper, supposedly reserved for breaking news, was the story that Victoria Beckham had her hair cut. WOAH, CANCEL MY 2 O'CLOCK, I BETTER READ THIS. I don't give a damn so much it hurts!
Anyway the second page is the Sun's attempt at squashing world politics into an A4 size square so they can give a three-page spread to Victoria Beckham's barnet. There was a story about a new strain of the TB virus that was rife in Rumania, Estonia and other countries who will be joining the EU in may.
The Sun talked about these disease-ridden people 'flocking' (Excuse me but isn't that a term for livestock, not people? You racist idiots) to England to claim benefits, steal our women, jobs and leech off the NHS costing the taxpayers billions of cash that perhaps they would otherwise squander buying more daily publications containing celebrity gossip and indoctrinating filth.
The racist message obviously wasn't predominant and it was written in a reportive style but basically gave the message "foreigners come to our country", "They are ill so will claim on the NHS", "We pay for the NHS through taxes" - shock-horror the stupid fickle readers put two and two together and dislike immigrants because "The Sun says it will make us poorer and that".
This sort of racist propaganda would be better suited to 1938 Germany to spread the word of the foreign enemy. It is just a matter of time before tabloids are asking us to invade Poland.
I am sickened.

Don't let actual evidence stop you lads....

Yes, I have ranted about tabloids before and I will do it again. This ties in with hearing the news my mate is in hospital due to a violent mugging and yet victoria beckhams haircut makes the front page, it just annoyed me at the time and writing about it vented my anger - I know tabloids are tripe - I have spent a long time doing a creative writing piece on it for English (not a rant like this, it is actually cleverly worded)

I didnt deny I was accusing them of being racist. I feel they WERE being racist, absolutely. They were trying however to disguise the fact. They didnt print "We dont like foreign people" but it is the message you get from reading it, it's subliminal not extravert.

Absolutely not. Is this topic entitled "Paradox's Phillosophy" ? I'm not claiming to give an insight that only a select 0.00004% of the world is able to do. I am expression an opinion, no more, no less. I didnt mention the media lesson because it carries any sort of prestige about it (Its considered a doss lesson by most who take it), I mentioned it because context is important.

I ranted about tabloids when I was in year 10 and year 11, before I took media. Anyone had have a half-assed poorly-punctuated rant like this, don't take it for anything more.

Yeah, I bow down to the media studies student :P
You expressed outrage at the Sun's content, if you had a brain then you would not have been surprised by that content, but hey, you are doing media...

You're the typical media studies student, you do a few hours a week and presume to be able to decode the world's media and that you are the holder of some truth no one else sees? Well I'll tell you now that I'd bet a good 80% of regular posters on this Life forum , regardless of their age, could make more valid assumptions and conclusions about the Sun, without having a single media class.

I would rather read a broadsheet than The Sun to catch up on the news. Not saying tabloid readers are 'commoners' etc - in fact there are more ABC1 socio-economic readers of the Sun than The Guardian, Times, Independant, FT, Observer, Telegraph etc. But still, a broadsheet is generally more intelligent....

Media Studies rules. My entire independant study is based on representation during Iraq etc.
White man good, animals are alright, foreigners (especially Blackies or Arabs) are scum.
Wahey...

I think Belldandy should READ my posts before being a mouthy little tart. I spoke about the subliminal message of the racist undertones. Please, in future for your own benefit (like perhaps a contract or something) make sure you read things propperly yeah?

With my FIRST line of the topic I said: "Today in Media we were analysing newspapers"
Do I need to further dumb this down for you to show you I didn't buy it?
With idiocy like this you could be the Sun's editor.
"...the stupid fickle readers put two and two together"
you realise that's almost degree level mathematics for most sun readers right?? ;)
