"The next-generation Nintendo console, codenamed Revolution, may not be shown at this year's E3. Eurogamer reports that the Japanese console maker is going to keep the console under wraps to keep the features of the new system out of the limelight a little while longer. From the article: "Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata is worried about rivals nicking all his best ideas at this early stage. That's how revolutionary the new console is, apparently... and also the exact same line Nintendo used to avoid showing Mario 128 at a previous E3."

True or not, Nintendos E3 presence won't be that noticable if this happens, even Zelda will only spark a minute amount of interest compared to the other two consoles planned to be unveiled at the show.

Gamecube just doesn't sell as a budget console, they're trying that now.

What WS said.

Personally, I think Nintendo should skip a generation altogether and start marketing the Gamecube as a budget console. And I don't mean the same way the Dreamcast/Saturn was reduced for quicksale, I mean a proper campaign.

You see, now that initial promotion and manufacturing costs have been paid off, they can now afford to sell the console for a lot cheaper.
Games likewise. :-)

Officially put the Gamecube out at £50 with a game and memory card.
Change the RRP (Highstreet Price) of new games to £25 - £30, and £10-£15 for player's choice. Then market the fact that you can get a Gamecube with a game for the price of a single PS3 game, really market fun multiplayer games and the whole social aspect (maybe start up a "party classics" range - they'd have the likes of Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Soccer Slam etc...).

I think that the market for this is about to open, especially when the next gen roll into town with Hi Res versions of the same games for 5 times the price...

Ofcourse, if Nintendo DO release another console, they should atleast stick to the "budget" plan.

No they aren't.

Resident Evil 4 and the new Zelda look like they've finally reached the Gamecube's potential, and from here on developers can concentrate on nothing but original games and brilliant gameplay.

Instead they'll get handed new consoles and spend 3 years getting to grips with it all over again.

The thing is, "No news, is good news"

If Nintendo keep it all a secret, then people will continue to speculate etc, giving Nintendo some advertisement. Though if Nintendo reveal everything, everyone will go "Oooh" now, but then XBox 360 will come out, and no-one will care about Nintendo. But if they keep it all a secret even when XBox 360 is out, people will still be wondering about the Nintendo Wonder Product!

The Xbox 360 is getting a pre-E3 'preview' internationally on MTV channels.

The marketting campaign is already underway for the next generation of consoles.

Why do ninty seem intent on breaking their own ankles? If they don't want to show off anything decent at E3 just chuck in something with the 'secret' details removed, they can waffle for a while without giving away anything important, it's better than nothing.

Dringo, people speculate the next console years before it is due, they like new hardware.

They like better graphics.

They like the sound of all the technical jargon.

This years E3 will be focusing around the next big thing.

Especially as the current consoles are beginning to show their age....

In terms of Nintendo making an innovative product that works, I'm surprised you're doubting them.

In terms if Nintendo losing out to MS and Sony, I'm surprised there's even an argument.

Which would make the problem even worse, as you'll be forced to look away from the TV screen every few seconds. Unless you like sitting 1 foot away from the TV and holding the controller up vertically underneath it.
