Not a long topic this.

Music is catagorised into various catagories, right?

Some examples would be:

Rock
Nu-Metal
Pop
R&B
Hip Hop
Soul
Reggae
and so on.

Obviously everyone has their preferences, however, there are those that wont give a band/singer a chance if they appear to be from one catagory but aren't, if they dress a different way to the stereotypical image of the catagory, or if they sing a song from a different catagory to what they normally do.

Why not look past the catagories and just enjoy the music. Judge it by what it sounds like and how it effects you. Don't judge it purely on the basis of a label.

I leave it to you to discuss.

Personally I find it such a shame that the tracks that break through to be dance music's representation to the country are absolute toss. Boogie Pimps? LMC vs U2? What IS this stuff! If Boogie Pimps track took more than 10 minutes to knock up I'd be seriously surprised. The decent artists slogging it away on the underground creating genuinely forward thinking and intelligent dance tracks are just ignored by radio. Urban music is apparently the way forward. The US mainstream rubbish. Its where the demand is, and because thats where the money lies thats what radio is supporting. Owners of indie dance labels have quickly realised that when it comes to finding support for their tunes, they cannot rely on the radio stations for any help whatsoever. When dance does find its way through to radio, its the throwaway NAFF stuff.

Even worse, when a tune which is decent finally DOES breakthrough, loads of second rate producers jump on the track, raping it for ideas and rake in the money with bandwagon jumping follow ups. Either that or they just find a previously popular vocal accapella and then stick it over the top of it in the guise of being a popular and quality bootleg version.

A rant. And a rant not even mentioning god awful EuroTrance with their NASTY synths and 3D rendered videos that haven't changed for the last 5 years.

Stick 50 Cent and whatever up against the likes of Roots Manuva, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien or the cLOUDDEAD/Anticon collective and they are CONSIDERABLY outshined. Quality lyrical content within hip hop styles.

Yeah. They could never come up with a masterpiece like 'Stairway To Heaven' or 'Disposable Heroes'. They'll just continue singing utter rubbish.

Well at least the genero-US hip-hop/R&B stuff would go i.e strip for me girl because I'm such a man and need to do you in da club. No offence to people who like it, as I'm sure there are many more unheard artists of those genres who actually have something decent in their musical hearts.

Emo, rock, alternative and all those other pointless rock derivatives. I love'em. Except for really really heavy metal that just has no point to it at all other than praising Satan and drinking goats blood. I like classical as well. I tend to like what I like, regardless, but what it really boils down to is that I actually don't like most rap (Rage + Beastie Boys excepted, if they count), R&B (in the modern sense) and dance and all the other genres. I just like my rock.
