Any tips/advice would be much appreciated.
Also any tips on how to make this uni searching easier, they never reply to my emails and never answer the phone.

Oh, erm, right. Well, in my experience university and life in general has a great deal to do with who you are with. It's the people who are the most important. I'm sorry to say that in my experience of both Physics and Computer Science there is a large "geek continguient". Don't get me wrong. The vast majority were really nice (mainly) guys and (rarely) gals, and I'm sure that some people would probably slap the same label on me, but for the most part I preferred to look elsewhere to satisfy my social needs. I only really associated with two or three other students in both cases.
Astronomy sounds like it might be good though.

Just admit it, you went all shy...

That's sounds like hard work, thanks for the tip though, I'll check it out.

Actually I wasn't being sarcastic (for once), I'm suddenly remembering the story about the boy crying wolf. You know at the freshers fair they have 'societies' I really am planning to join a physics/astronomy one. (I can imagine everyone slowly backing away now...)

Not really, its just contrived hassle I can do without, and a lot of what they show you on when they go into labs like that are people doing futile tasks that look scientific. Most of the time when you see chemists or biologists multipipetting clear fluid into several containers you can bet the mystery liquid is likely to be water.

Very true.

I'm afraid not, but if you look on the internet somewhere there is a site that details government EPRSC grants. I'll bet if you can find where the money is going in that area you'll have some idea.

Very probable, and yet more sarcasm : )

A bit camera shy, were we?

Yeah, see now that I'm old enough to get opinions from people on different unis, I can choose something that has a good town/social environment as well as good resources, as I think it is just as much a life experience as it is a learning experience. Do you know where's best for Zoology? I seem to have narrowed down about 10 places, but I just need to get confirmation that they will all accept an application from me before I put them on my UCAS. I think Liverpool is my top choice, cos they do Zoology with Evolutionary Psychology, I'm really into the Psychology side of it, the 'instinct' factor in all animals, the altruism, etc.
I would love to do Physics, but I think there is a wider choice of jobs in the Biological field. I'll have to join a Physics 'society' instead!
I don't even know where to

I thought of it as a piece of creative writing and advertisement for yourself at the same time. You have to really sell yourself, and like any good story, write a statement that keeps the reader interested. Using nice adjective helps too.

Hull as a city os pretty bad, but it's getting a lot better and I'm optimistic that it'll become a more reputable city in the North soon. The University is okay, but it depends which department you go to. For example the chemistry department is pretty minted because they invented liquid crystals (although when then first did so they forgot to patent it, D'oh!). I'm involved in Computer Science and we're constantly getting lots of cool new toys to play with. There's an off shoot called the Hull Immersive Visualization Environment (http://www.hive.hull.ac.uk/) which has domes and dual projection screens, tracking systems etc. The BBC were filming there yesterday for some reason (so I spent most of the day hiding in my lab).
I did my first degree in Physics at Warwick, which was very different because it's a completely self contained campus. The nearest large place was Coventry which was three miles away. That was a pretty nice place to live.

See that's my point with the assignment, how am I gonna learn from my mistakes if I don't make any, I'll make them all in this assignment, just watch me. It's not too bad though, cos you don't submit the assignment you did worst in, so you only submit the best 7 and then they average your score out of those. There were about 3 comments, bit of a waste of time really!
What's Hull like? Where did you do your first degree?

I try to make sure that I have a proactive and eccelectic attitude towards alcohol consumption, but I do have a penchant for John Smiths.

Yeah, I finished uni twice already but I keep coming back for more punishment ; ) I'm currently doing a doctorate at Hull.

Yeah, I remember using 'penchant' in my record of achievement personal statement. Good old thesaraus. I think the new buzz word is 'proactive'.
