I watched a program and it said this world would be scorched, not swallowed up by the sun. I just thought that the sun would heat our planet up so that life becomes unstable and we collide with other planets forming 'new' planets. The sun will collapse and let off energy which could provide enough heat that could setup another smaller stable sun and after a few million years life could be sustained.

You Might be right, i dont know.

I'm sure that we'll come up with a really good sun cream that we can smear onto the globe. This will stop nasty sun and his yellow face from burning us with its fierce gaze.

You really know nothing about science do you?

if the world is here in 5 billion years, it will be swallowed up by the sun which will grow so large it will envelop most of the planets in the system. shortly afterwards (figuratively speaking) the sun will collapse, and all evidence of us puny humans will be nothing but space dust.

this is how the world will end:

everyone will hear a slight hissing at first: "sssssssssss". This will gradually get louder (over the space of about 3 hours) until someone whispers "whats that noise?" at which point, the hissing will stop and....POP!....the world will vanish.

God told me this.

A virus will wipe us all out. Or Nano-technology.

Or a Nano virus.

and our survey says Err err. Firstly on a technicality, if I remeber correctly asteroid rarely impact the earth, because the are made up of mainly ice, CO2 (frozen) and some rock they entirely burn up on entry. Meteorites do as they are made up of nickel and iron. Pedancy aside, there are two main sources of asteroids/meteorites. The kupier belt containing lots of small things and the Oort cloud, containing huge things. The earth travels close to the kupier belt once a year around august, which is why we see lots of shooting stars around that time. None of those things really pose a threat. The Oort cloud surrounds the whole solar system. Its pretty stable and most things that were going to come from there already have. If something was to fall into the solar system from there it has to get past all the gas giants etc and then hit us before is flies into the sun. Very unlikely. I saw some woman doing the christmas lectures implying other things but she was dressing it up for the cameras. In short, any catastophic world enders have already hit us, probably wiping out the dinosaurs and also creating the moon. I think we are pretty safe from this sort of end.

unfortunately I think this scenario is the most likely.

This is a relatively slow process. Measure can be taken to stop or survive this. Its an issue but it won't wipe out all humanity.

IF aliens did turn up they would have to be far more advanced than us, therefore in their eyes we would be dumb animals, and possibly been rounded up like cattle and made into Mc XFiles burgers

This wouldn't end humanity. We overpopulate, we suffer, many people die, we're no longer overpopulated. Problem solved.

Great Question Sheepy

Here's what I think of your options :

> a) Asteroid smashes the Earth in two

An asteroid impact is an almost definite in the future, although the possibility of it being big enough to smash the earth in two is quite remote. Not impossible though.

> b) The old classic of WW3 and nuclear/chemical death etc

Well, this would wipe the human race and animal kingdom out, but the earth would still be intact, and life may return in millions of years.

> c) Global warming

Again, this would kill us humans, but the earth itself would still be intact. The atmosphere could return to something like normal in the distant future.

> d) Ailens invading/destroying

Very unlikely in my opinion, aliens would have nothing to gain from destroying our planet. If they wanted it for themselves then they would wipe us out maybe, but the planet would remain.

> e) Overpopulation, end of finite reources etc

Yet again, we'd all die, but the planet would survive.

I assume that you meant the end of the planet, and not the human race ... ?
