ARSENAL may get to keep the FA Cup if they make it a hat-trick of wins this year.
FA chiefs are meeting to discuss the plan and a decision will be made before the semi-finals.
Arsene Wenger’s men must first beat Liverpool or Ports mouth away in the last eight next month.
And Soho Square insiders believe it will give the Cup a massive boost if the Gunners have an added incentive to become the first club since Blackburn in 1886 to win three finals in a row.
But the FA Cup committee must first scrap one of their oldest rules. Wanderers could have kept the trophy after their third win in 1878 but gave it back on condition it was NEVER won outright.
Arsenal have already seen off Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Leeds this term.
And Dutch star Dennis Bergkamp said: "No one can say we don’t deserve it if we win the FA Cup again."
But Gunners will have to progress without Ray Parlour.
The midfielder is out for up to six weeks after scans confirmed he strained knee ligaments in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.
But Freddie Ljungberg could be back for Saturday’s Premiership clash with Chelsea after three games out with a rib injury.
The way Arsenal are playing is just amazing going unbeaten in the Premiership so far this season and beating loads of records.

Nope. Wanderers won the cup three times on the trot; 1876, 77 and 78
Blackburn Rovers then did it in 1884, 85 and 86.
I was refering to 'Ports mouth' (unless I've been spelling it wrong all these years) and all the sentences that started with 'And', which just jarred on my nerves. Doesn't whoever wrote it know anyother way of starting a sentence!

True, he's been injured for a while, but Ljungberg has been out for much of the last 2 seasons with various injuries.
Anyway, in other news (from Arsenal.com) ...
REYES SHORTLISTED FOR 'PLAYER OF THE ROUND' AWARD
Jose Antonio Reyes has been recognised by the FA for his matchwinning display on Sunday as Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Reyes is one of three players short-listed to win the prestigious 'Player of the Round' award run in partnership with UMBRO. Arsenal's new signing hauled Arsenal level against Chelsea with a fierce 25-yard effort and scored the winner five minutes later. If Reyes wins the award he will take his place in the FA's first ever 'Team of the FA Cup'.

Erm speaking of that somebody else called Wiltord is more Anderton like...

Are you referring to the "Blackburn" and "Wanderers" thing?
I noticed that, but thought I'd see if anyone else did before I mentioned it.
Unless, of course, Blackburn Rovers were once known as Blackburn Wanderers. I honestly don't know, but I can't see it.

Well, they did it with the World Cup.
They'd obviously have a new trophy made, so you wouldn't be playing for the right to loan "our" trophy for a year. Maybe the FA were thinking of getting a new trophy anyway, and this would give them the excuse?
The gesture is a nice one, but I can't say I agree with it, even as a Gooner. Maybe have a replica made and give us that, but the original? Hmm. No.
If there does turn out to be any truth to the story, I suspect the idea will come to an abrupt halt once it becomes common knowledge and the fans of every other club kick up a stink about it! Which is bound to happen.
Anyway, it's a mute point as Liverpool will win it this year.
I mean, if they are gonna go ahead with this idea, they might as well just re-name it to "The Arsenal Cup", scrap it, and start-up an all-new one where that meaphoric "SOLD" sign is never hanging overhead.
It'd kill one the greatest Cup-competitions in European Football. Things just wouldn't be the same anymore, without it. Why would any other club want a trophy that already "belongs" to another team, no matter what!?
It's not like 3-in-a-rows like this happen all-the-time, you know.
Then again, it has ONLY been reported in The Sun....
