Taken from The Sun website - sorry, but I couldn't find it anywhere else.

ARSENAL may get to keep the FA Cup if they make it a hat-trick of wins this year.

FA chiefs are meeting to discuss the plan and a decision will be made before the semi-finals.

Arsene Wenger’s men must first beat Liverpool or Ports mouth away in the last eight next month.

And Soho Square insiders believe it will give the Cup a massive boost if the Gunners have an added incentive to become the first club since Blackburn in 1886 to win three finals in a row.

But the FA Cup committee must first scrap one of their oldest rules. Wanderers could have kept the trophy after their third win in 1878 but gave it back on condition it was NEVER won outright.

Arsenal have already seen off Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Leeds this term.

And Dutch star Dennis Bergkamp said: "No one can say we don’t deserve it if we win the FA Cup again."

But Gunners will have to progress without Ray Parlour.

The midfielder is out for up to six weeks after scans confirmed he strained knee ligaments in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

But Freddie Ljungberg could be back for Saturday’s Premiership clash with Chelsea after three games out with a rib injury.

Yeah, but after recent events, BBC's news is about as credible as The Sun's! ;-p

Actually, in the earlier rounds, it's a great way of highlighting the heroics from one of the smaller teams, especially if they're involved in a giant-killing of sorts. A good way to highten the profile of players from lower divisions, or even non-league players.

It'll probably cost more than a paltry £1,500 to make a decent replacement cup.

This is all starting to look suspiciously like the Sun reporter's fantasy.

No, I don't buy the Sun, but my parents do.

I still can't find it mentioned anywhere else. I've looked on TeamTalk, Football365, and even the official Arsenal and FA websites. Not a dicky-bird. Hardly surprising, I guess.

Maybe it's an early April Fools!

The only follow-up I've seen is in the sports section of The Sun today, where they have e-mail responses from 'readers', and some 'expert' opinions for and against the idea. Oh, and a small article on the back and continued inside, where Blackburn have allegedly given the idea their blessing.

`Player of the Round´ awards? Now, this really is getting rediculous!

It's fair-enough being able to name one-player as "The Best" for the entire tournament (at the end of it, obviously), but this is like something only the media would come up with -- the FA have sunk to new, even-lower lows! :P

Maybe his performance (...well, the goals - where was he in the first-half?) was good enough to change Arsénal's fortune, but, once again, we have another bad example of how the wrong message is being sent across - especially to the younger players; who'll grow-up to play in a world of "one-man teams".

Giving Arsénal a one-off "three-in-a-row"-special REPLICA trophy isn't a bad idea, though. Winning the trophy for 3 years in a row is something for any club to shout-about. They deserve to be rewarded. However, giving them THE FA Cup - for life - is not the answer.

I'm sure, too, that Sepp Blatter would have "something negative" to say about this idea if it did get the backing after going public...

Don't see the point myself. Treating the FA Cup like a dirty matchball? As for the FA shelling out to make a new trophy, aren't they supposed to live on a shoestring budget, with as much money as possible being thrown at 'grass roots' football?

I'd hate to see future footballers compromised so that the FA can indulge their own overblown view of reality.

Grudgingly, I have to admit the following :)

Reyes was top class against Chelsea. If he plays like that more often, Arsenal have a truly great signing there.

If Arsenal can win the FA cup three years running, they deserve to keep it. Winning the FA cup is no mean feat, and to do so three years running is an awesome achievement.
