Well, they're pretty much the same thing - dying from lack of oxygen.
It's impossible to drown yourself though without any help. You can't just put your head under water and never come up - your body won't let you.
Imagine trying to drown yourself - what would you do before going under? Well, take a deep breath of course. Even though that'll mean it will take longer.
Same goes with suffocation I suppose - you can't really force your face down into a pillow. Although taping a plastic bag around your head maybe an easier way to do it.
