Mac has announced that Nvidia's GeForce3 graphics processor will be available for the Mac before it's released with Microsofts Xbox games console.
What exactly does this information tell everyone here and why is er-no posting it as a new topic? Well the reason being that it gives us lots of information about Microsofts console that Microsoft don't want us to know! The GeForce3 graphics chip is being made readily available for Macs in three months time, then two months after that PC's will be able to use the graphics chip, quite suprising considering Microsoft said that the chip would be unique to the Xbox! What else does this beautiful piece of information tell us apart from the fact that the Xbox won't boost anything graphically compared to when you run the chip on a Mac and that it will by the time the Xbox launches all have been seen before.
The news tells you a hint on the Xbox's price, Microsoft making no announcement as yet on price but the news gives you a hints, the chip will sell at £240 for the Mac and then PC, although you can't go make up an Xbox price from this figure it bounces clues at the £400+ easily.
When looking for news on consoles and gaming, don't always look for the companies news or ign's news, look at other news which may not have anything to do with gaming but reading inbetween the lines can give you hints at what is going to happen before companies announce it.
Thanks for Reading.

Why will buying 50 games help microsoft? I thought they werent going to get any money from sales of games (except their own obviously) which is why the games could be as cheap as the PC counterparts.
The X-Box will be a succes, but maybe not from the word go. Microsoft can afford to lose money on each machine they sell, so surely they will put the price low enough so people will buy them. If you're going to make a loss anyway, why not make a bigger one, but at least enusre people buy your machine.
I think that after the slight mess up over the PS2 launch, most people will wait a few months before buying one, this is not necessarily a bad thing, because by then more games will be out and the price may well have dropped.
In short, if the X is priced any higher than the PS2 (which i doubt it will) then it will probably fail. If micrsoft can, i think they should release they X at around £250ish, if the launch games are good, i would probably buy one for that price.
I don't think that the X-Box will do too well in Japan, It does have the right stuff for America and Even over here, but getting Japanese console support could prove to be a bit too much of a feat, even with $500 million of advertising money, at least in the early stages.
Well, having said that I am not quite sure it would be, if you can advertise it properly and with the games that so many of the Japanese people like, like snowboarding and maybe that Halo game as well as the others but to a lesser extent, I think they will be able to get at least one foot into the console circle, poeple will buy them and then, depending of the quality of the machine...word of mouth opinions will spread and Microsoft will make their name in Japan that way BUT if the console is a bit 'iffy' or 'dodgy' and the games that were promised aren't there, we could see another PS2 launch and Microsoft can't afford to do that with their first conseole. This is the big impression and MS have GOT to make it...
But will they?!
That aside I agree, Microsofts well established brandname and massive ammounts of cash mean that the X-box has enormous potential.
However I think it will have a very hard time winning over the Japanese market, at the moment the Japanese control the gaming industry...see if they give it to the US, I doubt it...theyre more likely to have released X-box piracy software developed and released within a few days, actually no that would increase sales, theyll make some X-box viruses or something! My point is the Japanese wont buy the X-box. Which leaves Microsoft with a problem that is that only Americans really like them, and the Japanese make the best games!
These facts mean that the road for Microsoft will be difficult, as it will also be for Nintendo. However I believe that Nintendo will rein triumphant, not simply because the GameBoyAdvance is incredibly popular already but because with a recession hitting Japan and America who will be able to find the spare cash to buy an unessential product??? My guess is that the Japanese will always find the cash for Nintendo, and the Americans will opt for the cheaper Gamecube after all they already own PCs that regularly crash.
But some people might and if the games are good and at the right price they will make their homes in the living rooms all over the world. There is nothing to stop Microsoft from dominating the market.
Except: 1 If The Gamecube does VERY well (Possible)
2 Playstation race too far ahead.
3 Developers Pull out
4 The X-Box is too expensive, especially
A) After Christmas
B) After buying a Gamecube!
C) In general
5 The money isn't there.
Point 4.C is very possible as MS may even decide to raise the price of the console to shorten the 'debt' repayments.
What is to say that Microsoft's shares will be as good as they are now in a years time...absolutly nothing! They are treading on VERY thin ice with BIG boots, lets hope that those boots spread the surface area rather than prove too weighty!
Microsoft might depend of products such as Windows and IE to back the X-Box up financially but if the prices of these two franchises go up, then with the ever growing popularity of Apple Mac, Microsoft could be in a lot of trouble.
I want to see the X-Box get a good start, it won't be able to compete on the same scale as the Gamecube; at least not for a while but time will take it's toll and there are quuite a lot of reasons to assume that it will work in Microsofts favour.
- Recognised Brand Name
- Limitless Console Support
- Lots of Back-Up Money
- $500K of Advertising!
No doubt it will take Microsoft a lot of time to catch up or 'Break Even'. Debts for the X-Box may even run into the XB2 (Second Console) But one thing is for sure they aren't coming it to this game with a 2 dead pigeons and a piece of cake, and although, like everyone else, they will suffer set-backs and delays, the X-Box has 'All The Right Stuff' as well as the potential to do Very, Very well.
But time is of the essence, and Nintendo know it!

I wouldn't coun them out yet! Mac are good but you never know what bill has up his sleeve!
