"Sad news guy.

It looks like Setanta Sports are taking over the rights to ALL WWE PPVs which means we will have to pay for the lot of them.

They have signed a one year deal to take control of them.

I think this means all PPVs over here for this year are PPV for us too.

See its NEVER a good thing to start shreiking when we dont get one. Sky got p'd off, someone sees a money making opportunity and then this **** happens.

I hope anyone who kicked up a stink about us loosing one PPV here and there are happy with this."

I'm not so sure it is a bad thing. I mean, people will be saying "oh we don't get to see it live so we shouldn't pay" but really, we've had it for free for ages anyway.

It doesn't actually affect me, I stopped watching WWE a long time ago. And if I like the look of a PPV, I download it.

At least we're guarenteed a decent service.

BTW, Royal Rumble full 30-min previews have started on Sentanta. Pretty good, better then the five minute crap we got before.

Errr...discuss.

----------------

Luckily before I hit post, I found this:

"Irish broadcaster Setanta Media acquired the rights to broadcast World Wrestling Entertainment PPVs in Great Britain and Ireland, according to releases sent out in Ireland today. Setanta Media is a subsidiary of Setanta Sport, which is a huge closed circuit satellite broadcasting company.

Sentanta has signed a one year deal (not sure on the price they paid for the rights), taking over the rights previously held by BSkyB. Sky One and Sky Sports will still air regular WWE programming in the same markets.

Setanta already announced they will be carrying the Royal Rumble on PPV on 1/25. The rights to several PPV events which were not set to air on Sky in the UK were up in the air, leaving British fans in the cold to this point.

I expect there will be a press release regarding this tomorrow from WWE. One report out of Ireland listed WWE as owned by "ex-wrestler Vincent McMahon."

As long as they were free, I'd happily see Sentanta take over RAW, Smackdown, Heat and Velocity. And aquire Confidential whilst they're at it.

Still, no official word just yet.

At least it's only the usual 4. I didn't like the thought of having to download Wrestlemania this year.

I e-mailed them the other day asking if this rumour that we will have to pay for all the usual free PPVs aswel, here's the reply...

Keep reading because the first bit is the usual stuff they stick in, but read on...

Thank you for your email about WWE events and please accept my apologies for
the delay in responding.

Please allow me to explain our position regarding WWE events.

Our agreement with WWE for the four Sky Box Office events expired early last
year and, despite some months of discussion with the WWE organisation we
were unable to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement.

However, I can now confirm that WWE Royal Rumble will be broadcast event by
Setanta Sports as a pay-per-view broadcasting on the 26/01/2004 at 1am.
Further information may be found by clicking on www.setanta.com

Whilst it was very disappointing for us all that we could not bring
Armageddon to the UK fans, this does not affect the other wrestling
programming that you receive from Sky. We will continue to show many hours
of wrestling across both Sky One and Sky Sports, including Raw, Smackdown,
Afterburn and Heat. In addition we will broadcast eight of the twelve
special events on Sky Sports, you will receive all of this with the Sky
Sports subscription that will continue to be the UK home of WWE.

I hope this clarifies our position and may I thank you for your continued
interest in Sky.

WOO! We don't have to pay!

I'll just buy the ones that have a good line-up from now on then (I guess that won't be all that many. :D). I just hope RAW and Smackdown stay where they are.

I knew Ant would come in here and tell us all to buy it. :)

I couldn't buy it even if I wanted to as I don't have the channel. I don't think I'd be able to get £14.99 every month anyway. I'll just have to download it.

Stop crying everyone and just pay for em if you wanna see em. :D

Nah lol, I guess I'm quite lucky coz my parents don't mind too much, they just pay usually.

I still find PPVs to be a highlight of my month, sommit to look forward to, so I'm just glad we're gonna get them.

WWE were greedy according to GP wanting the UK fans to pay for every PPV and Sky didn't want that so they sold the rights.
