Greetings once more - your favourite supplemental GAD fest is back again, taunting you with prizes you probably won't win like a carrot in front of a donkey. If you didn't love it, you wouldn't keep coming back.

Something a little different this time, in that this competition actually requires you to think a little rather than splatter your 'artistic' daubings on a banner :) What we'd like you to do is come up with some ways in which Special Reserve could promote themselves effectively. Bear in mind we haven't exactly got the backing of the Sultan of Brunei, we'd like you to drop us a few ideas on how best to get across the fact that Special Reserve are cheap, reliable and have a wide product range.

This could be improvements to ways we currently run things, new product ranges you think would appeal to our customers (bear in mind we currently sell rather a lot of stuff - see left sidestrip), new exciting ways to advertise our existing offers or just any ideas that have been floating round your head. Is there some range of products you just can't get hold of that would be perfect for us to sell? Let us know!

Post your ideas in this thread and we'll announce a winner at around the end of February, let's say the 27th. The best suggestions will win whatever prizes we give them, most probably yer standard £25/£50 GAD prize.

(And before anyone brings it up, yes we do think about this stuff ourselves, but we wanted to see what you lot think as well. So button it!)

---------------------------------------------------------

And the winner is..... phi11ip, for the following suggestion:

"Here's an idea, and if carried out correctly could be very beneficial. I've got a nice example too just to prove to you just how beneficial it is. www.staghosting.com was a free hosting service set up last year with the intention of boosting the ratings of a a few sites belonging to a company, one of these sites was www.actiondays.co.uk. Basically, unlike your free hosting, this hosting only offered hosting to domain names, you get 200MB disk space and 4 Gig bandwidth a month, you can upload from any connection unlike Freeola. So basically the company which has nothing to do with hosting has just set up a hosting site, sounds stupid doesn't it? What the requirements of this free hosting are though is that you must display a couple of small text links on your site, on mine you can see them on the links section on the side of the page. Google counts each link as a 'vote' and increases the pagerank of the site in question meaning that it shows up higher in searches, I see you've got 'cheap games' pretty much sorted but you don't show up anywhere when 'PS2 games' is typed in. If people were to display these text links on their sites it would soon make you appear high up on the search results. www.actiondays.co.uk was absolutely nowhere when it started, it had a low pagerank and didn't appear on searches. Have a look now though and you'll see that searching for 'corporate event' on Google.com returns the site as number 2 out of 6,500,000. Think about it. You've already got the hosting capabilities, all it would require is a server and someone to monitor the sites every now and then to make sure the links are there."

Congratulations and well done to everyone who entered.

(Dunno if this has been suggested - but meh)

I remember a while back going on to a search website (I think it Kelkoo) and out of the companies that would come up, yours would too. But now when I search for game prices etc, I never seen Special Reserve anywhere. Have you considered adding your site to such services?

I much prefer to simply search for prices of games rather than searching through a number of websites for the best deal. It's simple but surely it would get SR a bit more recognition.

Also, I know it's been mentioned a number of times, but maybe publishing one customer review every time an SR magazine is published, it would get more people to write reviews. More reveiws being written means that more people visit your site. More people visiting your site ultimately means more sales.

The prospect of winning any game you like is brilliant, but it's much more likely people will spot GameADay if there's a whole section dedicated to it. Obviously a club page in the mag would be nice, too, but I can't see that generating any more customers to be honest.

Oh, and once every three months SR's site should be based on Mr T. You've gotta love him, after all, plus he'll 'Pity tha' foo' who doesn't buy an XBox and PGR for £129.99." Other such adverts could be made for a number of products.

Get a flashy sports car like a Ferrari or somthing like that and print the Special Reserve Logo and things on it out side each of your stores. Your bound to get some customers this way. Oh and throw in some hot women in bikinis (just a thought) :)

maybe if you advertised a bit on tv telling about your incredibly low prices try commenting on he rrp and then show your prices.
or you could set up speial events in towns where it is busy with shows on how great you are and have game competitions where you chalenge a member of the audience and if they beat you at a game they win a membership and free gift, make the pay 50p-1.00 to try at this, you are making money and advertising all at the same time. if you need an unbeatable gamer just give me a buzz at my email account, i want 0.9% of the profit please?? we could always negociate.

There's only one way - put ads on the internet - make them flash and everything. don't put no rubbish on there, u no, just stuff like "cheaper than everywhere" or you could add a sound clip saying "come here because we dont rip you off! money off! buy, buy, buy!! now, now, now1!. or something. or you could team up with microsoft. they'l have ideas (like they don't have too any things already)

You should hire some tramps.
Make them rob lots of houses.
When they leave.
They drop an SR leaflet on the floor of the lounge.
In the morning.
The owners come down.
See a pile of mess.
Then spot a yellow and red leaflet.
They go on the site.
Find out they can buy all their missing stuff.
They order it.
You get money.
Times this by 10,000 houses robbed.
Sorted.

Why don't you put it up on the newspaper's, or them big poster boards. That would definetly catch the eye of people. Or even make a little advert?

Here’s a way to advertise to even more teenagers and keen gamers. You supply schools with cheap computer equipment and software so pupils can get a well-earned education. You then ask the schools to advertise that the equipment came from Special Reserve and give a list for games, accessories, prices, console bundles and directions on how to get to the Special Reserve discount stores on a newsletter or a report, which the pupils take home with them. You’re sure to attract more publicity this way.
