Greetings once more - your favourite supplemental GAD fest is back again, taunting you with prizes you probably won't win like a carrot in front of a donkey. If you didn't love it, you wouldn't keep coming back.
Something a little different this time, in that this competition actually requires you to think a little rather than splatter your 'artistic' daubings on a banner :) What we'd like you to do is come up with some ways in which Special Reserve could promote themselves effectively. Bear in mind we haven't exactly got the backing of the Sultan of Brunei, we'd like you to drop us a few ideas on how best to get across the fact that Special Reserve are cheap, reliable and have a wide product range.
This could be improvements to ways we currently run things, new product ranges you think would appeal to our customers (bear in mind we currently sell rather a lot of stuff - see left sidestrip), new exciting ways to advertise our existing offers or just any ideas that have been floating round your head. Is there some range of products you just can't get hold of that would be perfect for us to sell? Let us know!
Post your ideas in this thread and we'll announce a winner at around the end of February, let's say the 27th. The best suggestions will win whatever prizes we give them, most probably yer standard £25/£50 GAD prize.
(And before anyone brings it up, yes we do think about this stuff ourselves, but we wanted to see what you lot think as well. So button it!)

"Here's an idea, and if carried out correctly could be very beneficial. I've got a nice example too just to prove to you just how beneficial it is. www.staghosting.com was a free hosting service set up last year with the intention of boosting the ratings of a a few sites belonging to a company, one of these sites was www.actiondays.co.uk. Basically, unlike your free hosting, this hosting only offered hosting to domain names, you get 200MB disk space and 4 Gig bandwidth a month, you can upload from any connection unlike Freeola. So basically the company which has nothing to do with hosting has just set up a hosting site, sounds stupid doesn't it? What the requirements of this free hosting are though is that you must display a couple of small text links on your site, on mine you can see them on the links section on the side of the page. Google counts each link as a 'vote' and increases the pagerank of the site in question meaning that it shows up higher in searches, I see you've got 'cheap games' pretty much sorted but you don't show up anywhere when 'PS2 games' is typed in. If people were to display these text links on their sites it would soon make you appear high up on the search results. www.actiondays.co.uk was absolutely nowhere when it started, it had a low pagerank and didn't appear on searches. Have a look now though and you'll see that searching for 'corporate event' on Google.com returns the site as number 2 out of 6,500,000. Think about it. You've already got the hosting capabilities, all it would require is a server and someone to monitor the sites every now and then to make sure the links are there."

Every month or do host competition in each of your stores so customers can win fantastic prizes. Do it like a tournament so people can get knocked out by going head to head against each other on a selected game. Charge about £5 for people to enter. People who get to the quater finals get a free years membership and a free gift, people who made it to the semi finals get 2 years free membership and a free gift. The runners up get to select whatever they want in the store up to £40 and the winner gets to select whatever he/she wants from the store up to £100.
Pop-ups - no. Never. Do you click on a pop-up if it says "YOU'VE WON £1000000000000000000000000000000000000000!!!"?
How about a big colourful pop-up?, I know everyone deletes pop-ups as soon as they come, but if we had one saying FREE GAMES, CLICK HERE! it might catch the attention of young gamers.
You mentioned a few good ideas, but if all of them were put into effect, it would cost SR a lot of money. And there were a few that were just plain stupid, such as printing the top chatter's in SR mag as it would surely encourage spammers.

if you where to:
make a program where if you get new members you get money off (eg:£5) your next purchase over £20 or a gift like the free gift thing but the money off gets you more money and more customers.
if you were to advertise on ebay.co.uk for one of there banners for even just half an hour a day you would get loads of customers.
i live nowhere near any SR shop and the only way i found out was via a N64 mag (a while back) i had my doubts but i wanted the free gift you were offering,i didn't look at your mags for about 4 months then, i saw the latest 007 game on your mag and i ordered it, your mags were really dull then and were just price lists.
make big competions like: the person who gets the most diffrent people to sign up each month gets a PS2 budle or any console)
currently you do a game swaping service at your shops which i have said before are far away from me, if you were to make a online swap shop where you check online then you send your games to specail reserve and they give you credit on next purchase (details should be provided on website)
i don't know what you do in your shops (do you give reddies to normal customers, non-members?) well if you didn't then you could give reddie points to customers which may not be members then they need to become member to claim etc.
give people stickers with there magizine to stick somewhere.
make a free online game (maybe the one that was made durig extra gameaday a few months ago) and allow people to download it.
make offers like buy 1 game get the second half price (for particular games).
make big silly competions like plaster your room with your home made specail reserve posters and the best gets a prize etc.
give prizes for people to go out to the most popular area around them and the ones who have the crazyest/largest display of specail reserve signs ect will be the winner.
always put the highest chatters etc on the club page in mag.
give prizes to protesters who hold signs up near rivals (eg: gamestation) you will need photograpic proof of course.
offer bulk discounts (eg: buy 5 games get 20% off).
you have a platnuim membership now but you could make a lower version of membership where you get your membership for free if you buy so much (eg : buy 2 games get the membership free) hence member has bought 2 games before even being a member in a way.
get a google sponsered link thing.
sell better know brands of digital cameras, monitors, rc cars, dvd & mp3 players.
make seasonal offers (eg: world cup = football games offer. etc)
and something diffrent and crazy wold help but i can't think of anything.
anyway if you were to do some of these it would make a lot more customers.

Sell stationery with the Special Reserve logo on it. It'll provide advertising for you even after the product is bought. Notebooks, pens, rulers, that kind of thing.
