It's that time of year for me. I have to make my course choices for my final year of high school. Before getting the sheet I'd like to makes it clear I explicitly wanted only to take Maths Int2, Media Studies Advanced Higher and Psychology Higher.

When i got it however there were a few "changes" :

> Psychology will not be taught this year as the teacher of it is off on maternity leave and will not be back in time to learn the new syllabus that the SQA are enforcing this year.

D'oh!

> Media Studies will not be taught at advanced higher as there were simply not enough funds once they had been given to the sciences.

D'oh!

I need to take a minimum of 4 subjects to stay in schooling and instead of just having to pick one I now need to try and get 3 :( The thing that REALLY annoys me though is they have dedicated an entire column to sciences to make sure that they get students. (there are only 5 columns) They are protecting the sciences from getting a low intake and letting the arts be damned. They have even put some of the sciences in two columns to further protect them. Why couldn't Media have gone there?!?! For example Physics at Higher is in Column B and C. Just not fair to the more creatively minded. My school sucks :(

Just because it doesn't fit into one category doesn't mean it has to fit into another by default.

COnsidering only half the course is actually studying the media and the other half is production I'd say it is an artform for the most part. You have to learn what you're doing in the first half of the course though.

Well if it's not a science or a social science then what would it fit into in? I'd say it is definitely a creative subject so an art form isn;t that bad a description.
