I was just wondering what you would all define as the best, most exciting, innovative films of our time are and why? I am doing an excerise a small article for a website and need to get the opinions of the general public otherwise I am just being bias to my own opinions. My top 5 would have to be though, in no particular order:

> The Matrix - For it's use of Bullet Time technology, a huge leap in the field of special effects for the cinema industry. Also the lobby scene was one like no-one had ever seen before. Finally through challenging our very perceptions of the world around us and for being the first film since The Terminator to question what progress is good progress.

> The Terminator - For pioneering the exo-skeleton model puppet used within the film to show the terminator's sinister structure walking out of what looks like the flames of hell. Another massive advance in the field of cinema effects.

> Star Wars : New Hope - Simply for a being a film that was larger than life. This immensley popular film has been digitally re-mastered and had the saga continued all because of the success of this. Truly an amazing film of our time.

> Braveheart - This has to be the most inspiring and emotional film I have seen in my life including the heart breaking roller coaster ride film Titanic.

> Gorillas In The Mist - Another amazingly inspirational story based entirely upon the lifes work of the famous primatologist Dian Fossey. She was truly a remarkable woman and Sigourney Weaver definitely does her justice in this amazing film.

I must say though that it was hard to choose especially considering I had the choice to include one of the many Hitchock or Tarantino films which are simply amazing films by amazing directors.

What are your top 5 though? :D

Ok here is my new list and I have looked over my reasons why I have chosen each so that my opinions seem less insane. Enjoy! :P

> The Matrix – For it’s use of bullet time, the "super slow motion with dynamic camera movement" visual effect used by the Wachowski brothers to stretch and freeze time during the story. For challenging our very perceptions of the world around us and for being the first film since The Terminator to question what progress is good progress?

> The Terminator - For pioneering the exo-skeleton puppet used within the film to show the terminator's sinister structure walking out of what looks like the flames of hell. Another massive advance in the field of cinematic effects.

> Star Wars: New Hope - Simply for being a film that was larger than life. This immensely popular film has been digitally re-mastered and had the saga continued all because of the success of this.

> Braveheart - This has to be the most inspiring and emotional film I have seen in my life including the heart breaking roller coaster ride of a film, Titanic. This film had a budget of $72,000,000 and earned $75,600,000 at the US box office alone. Naturally this was also a huge hit all around the UK as well with many cinemas running this film for more than half the year! Not many films can boast such huge success.

> Blade Runner - Set in a futuristic world in which “Replicants” (artificially created humans) are regarded as the vermin of society and are treated accordingly. Blade Runner is a film about a futuristic Police Man named Deckard whose job is that of an exterminator. Wiping out all the Replicants! This movie is a bleak prediction of the future, a future in which we must ask ourselves what it is to be human, and why life is so precious.

This was quite possibly the first film to have properly used a narrative jumping backwards and forwards in time as anything more than some rubbish little gimmick. And noise choice of quote too.

<3 Memento

Evil Dead 2 - A chainsaw for a hand! "Who's laughing now?" Genius

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - "I just want to cut a little 'Z' in your forehead"

Memento - "What am I doing .... ah, I'm chasing this guy ...... no, he's chasing me"

Matrix - "What's he doing??" "He's beginning to believe"

Fight Club - "I am Jacks complete lack of surprise"

Mojo didn't suggest that what was in the film didn't happen, just not in the way depicted. It was an epic, but not a historical one.

Yes "best, most exciting" and then innovative. I was listing all the possible choices not stating that one film had to endorse them all heh. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough :P

Read the top, they don't have to be innovative. They can just be exciting or maybe just even your favourite. That falls under exciting with all the gory battles. Titanic was just great in my opinion:D

I don't know what's worse, the fact that you think Braveheart was innovative or that you thought Titanic was good too.
