I watch programmes like 'Passport to the Sun', 'A Place in the Sun' and the like, with people moving abroad to permanent sunshine, then I look out of the window at the grey, minging, freezing cesspit of perpetual depression and wonder if moving abroad would be as good as it looks.

What do you think? Could you live in a villa in the med, permanently? Or is it a case of 'A nice place to visit, but wouldn't wanna live there'?

My mouth is watering looking at all these bright sandy beaches (weird I know, sand isn't very good for your teeth). All we have got to look forward to here is 2 months of sun, and 10 months of freezing cold rain/sleet/crap. Even a bin man in Mallorca is probably happier than someone with a 'good' job here, simply because of the laid back lifestyle.

ha ha. yep, they are certainly something. I find her 'bubblyness' charming, but get the strange feeling that if you were in the room with her for more than an hour, you'd be tearing chunks of flesh off your face.

You're just so classy cookie.

I like it here despite its many flaws. I wouldn't mind a holiday home or whatever, but it would take a bit for me to get used to living somewhere without much rain.

Colorado is nice, but a bit too warm for me. I'd pick North Dakota or somewhere stupid like that.

Ive got a dream of moving to florida, the Americans are just so cheerful and pleasant, and Wal-mart is such a great place to shop, whether i want shoes, a tv or a pump action shotgun, its all under one roof.

I watch passport to the sun too, but only because of the allure of nadia sawalha's breasts.

Next time your abroad on holiday, look at the town/streets.

Clean, neat and attractive. No rubbish, no gum, no dog excretement.

Thats why i'm ashamed to live here.

Most of the year our weather isn't that bad is it?

Lately we've been having pretty good summers, and though the sunshine makes me feel better, it's still never a real solution.

But living by the sea, nice weather all year, yeah, it sounds good.

Just probably not a cure for all our problems.

I'd still love to get out of this country though. Not sure where to yet, maybe New Zealand....

my choice of state would have to be florida. that would be sweet. not the touristy area - somewhere close to a decent bay for fishing etc. one day ....

Yup, that's what's tempting me. Only problem is, I'd have to put up with the government (which will hopefully change for the better when the time comes for me to move) and the over-patriotic yanks themselves.

I can deal with that though, if it means fantastic weather, lifestyle and costs!

I know what you mean, this place really sucks ársé for the majority of the year.

When I can afford it, I'm upping and moving to Florida or Cali. Guaranteed*

*if I can afford it, of course!
