We need a new team
By CHARLIE WYETT

TONY ADAMS is considering his future as Wycombe boss — after just 11 GAMES in charge.

The former England and Arsenal defender has suffered a nightmare start in management with just two wins so far and reckons he needs virtually an entirely new team to stop the rot.

Wycombe remain rooted to the foot of Division Two and Adams has already fallen out with a number of senior players.

The Gunners legend admitted: “I’m going to have to sleep on it and think about my future.

“OK, I don’t know my best 11. I don’t know my best five at the moment. You have to own up here and say some of the guys are not good enough.

“I need to bring in players, that’s evident. Those here aren’t doing it.

“We need a goalkeeper, right-back, maybe a centre-half, left-back, a couple of midfielders and a couple of forwards.

“There’s pressure at all levels. I was under no illusions when I walked into this club that they were bottom for a reason and they are still bottom for a reason.

“You tell me when this squad has been on good form. They have been patchy and inconsistent.”

Adams, 37, became manager after Lawrie Sanchez was axed and is on £120,000 a year.

He started with a 4-1 FA Cup romp against Swindon on November 8 but has managed only a league victory against Bournemouth since then.

After the 4-0 Boxing Day thrashing by Brighton, Adams made five switches for Sunday’s home game against Rushden — and lost 2-0.

He controversially axed club captain Michael Simpson, last season’s player of the year, along with flair player Darren Curry and brought in three 17-year-olds.

But Wycombe, with just three league wins all season, were booed off as they flopped again.

Yarr. Wycombe had better give Adams some dosh to spend in the January Sales.

Basically, he spent one game observing. Actually, he spent the first half of one game observing it. He came down on the touchline, and we ended up winning 4-1. Then, the week later, we had an unfair decision go against us, and we lost 2-1. But the team have no excuses for the rest of the games.

And to be honest, it's all because of the FA and the money issues. We, like a lot of division two clubs (just look at Bournmouth, or Brentford), had to sell some of our best players (which included strikers Andy Rammell, Sean Devine and captain Paul McCarthey, our best defender) because we couldn't afford it. We lost our shirt sponsers and ended up having to sell the stadium name to Causeway, hence why we no longer play at Adams Park, and now play at the Causeway Stadium. Same ground, different name.

But, I'm not gunna sit back and blame the FA. Where's the 2000/01 team that got to the semi-finals of the FA Cup? Where's the team that beat Leicester in the semis? Where's the team that were 'cheated' out of the final by Liverpool? Where's the Wycombe I once knew?

Well, it's his own fault, really.

He knew he was entering the management game too early - yet, for some reason, he still went ahead and took the job when offered to him. And now, it looks like he's beggining to pay for his `mistakes´.

Or is this just one of those things all managers get when they're first starting-out with a new club? I mean, he did admit that he doesn't "know" the team...

From what I'd heard, he was meant to be spending the rest of this season studying, first, before becoming a manager or coach, anyway...?

I guess the pull of Football was just too-strong, so-soon after retiring from it.

Buy me for £100 and I bet I'd get at least 5 goals a seaason.
