12/27/2003. According to various reports out of Spain (Marca) and Portugal (A Bola), Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in the services of Luis Figo for next season.

Abramovich has told Real Madrid to name their price, as Figo could be Chelsea's big summer signing.

But Alex Ferguson is also said to be interested in Figo and is also will to throw large sums of cash to secure the services of the Portuguese international.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is said to be uninterested in parting with Figo due to his immense popularity with the club's supporters.

Figo has stated in the past that he would like to play in England before returning to Portugal and ending his career with Sporting Lisbon.

THese words may return to haunt me, but i'm pretty convinced saha will be a pretty awful signing. He's not exactly what i'd call a proven scorer and i think there are much better options available to them.

Yes we are saving quite a bit of money not having those 2 on the payroll, which means unlike other seasons i expect to see one if not 2 big signings this January. Personally Puyol and Saha would make me happy and both are available for the Champions League which Fergie seems so pre-occupied with

Your wage bill must be falling a bit at the mo.

8-9 mill a year off from selling beckham and veron,

you probably put back on about half of it but with 5 new players.

I reckon Keane will call it a day soon and that will be another 4.5 mill a year off.

I meant wages wise. The fee would probably be the same although high quality rags like the News of the World (ahem) claim a fee for Van Der Vaart would be around £12 million and one for Figo would be around £20 million.

doubt van der vaart will be cheaper. Figo is considerably older. If figo joined chelsea in the window i think we'd walk the league.

He's just one player! i hear you cry! Yes but look what damien duff does. For their position Duff is the best player at chelsea by a mile. He is lethal and when he is on the pitch we always look like scoring. Attackingly speaking our left flank is stronger than our right. If you look at the chelsea team the only position that blatantly requires filling is right midfield and figo would be the obvious choice. Still got 2 or 3 years left in him and that would be world class service and time to look for another world class successor.

If we are going to spend in the window a right midfeilder and possibly another CB to replace desailly is all we need.

Back in maybe 1999 i would have liked to see Figo come to Old Trafford but now i'd much rather see someone like Van Der Vaart come to the Theatre of Dreams. Younger, quicker, cheaper and in the long run probably better he'd be a much better signing.

If it's anyone, it'll be Chelsea.

And if it is Chelsea, then I won't be at all surprised.
