I have a Toshiba laptop with CD/DVD R/W drive. It works fine with music CD's BUT I cannot get it to play a DVD video (The Terminator, to be precise) It recognises the D drive and shows me all the files whichh have the following extensions:.BUP .VOP and .IFO

Do I need a special program to run this. I have WIndows media Player on my pc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for info. I have a 30 days trial od WinDVD and it seems good. It has a full screen and to me quality is very good. I can watch film before expiry date and then make up mind whether to buy.

Hm, yeah, I dont really need a dvd player, just it would be handy to have a dvd/cdrw combi thing.

Maybe. DVDs on PCs I have found not particular look as good as on a TV. You should be able to run them full screen. DVD players are cheap now anyway, you can pick up a decent multi region one for £50, even £40 for some.

Yeah, well I stuck a 2ghz hsf on it so thats cool.

It really sucks not having a dvd player in the whole house!!

No prob. Even DivX and Xvid will be ok on it. As I said below it will take up tons of cpu power so after a while the PC may get hot if CPU is running 100% most of the time.

Hm, righty. Well yeah I wouldn't need to use it when dvd watching, just as long as it ran nice.

I have a copy of WinDVD (legal!) somewhere. I guess I need to borrow a dvd drive to test it out! Thanks anyway tho.

Yeah It should work Gas Mask. Think that on software like PowerDVD they say minimum CPU is 300mhz. With your processor you might be using pretty much all CPU speed to run a DVD so you wont really be able to do much else, but you wont really need to if your watching it.

Can somebody tell me what specs you'd need to run a DVD nicely?

I have a 466 Celeron (Overclocked to 520mhz) with 128mb ram and an old Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card, thinking about making it into a dvd/mp3/work box. But would a dvd run alright?

Thinking about buying a dvd/cd-rw combo. Around 40 quid.
