Why do we spend our lives accumulating crap that we don’t need and constantly try to better ourselves when we know the inevitable, we are all going to die. The average life expectancy is, at a guess, 80. Now the average person stays in education until being 21, gets a job and works until being about 65 and then spends the last 15 years of their life being too old to enjoy the freedom and retirement money.

This, to me at least, seems pointless. I don’t want to conform to a life like that; I want to appreciate life whilst I am young enough to do so. I don’t want to work 9-5 and wear a tie to work. I want to be comfortable and do things when I want. I don’t want to have to have a piece of paper and a circle of metal to tell a woman I love her, nor do I want to use my “freedom to vote” to elect a greedy politician.

I want to do my part to better the world and not see it destroyed by under privileged youths with no better way to express their angst. I want to be able to write poetry without it being gay and I want to be able to make blonde jokes without being branded a bigot. I don’t want to be a politically correct clone of the editor of The Guardian, nor do I want to start a conversation about ‘That Korean immigrant that served me at McDonalds.”

Life is short and you shouldn’t worry about taking it seriously. Live for the moment and enjoy yourself whilst you can. Don’t push things back and hope that taking your girlfriend to a cheaper restaurant will save some money for central heating when you are a wrinkly old statistic. Chances are you’ll die before you reach that age. Take risks, try bungee jumping and tightrope walking and if you die doing it you might make a column in a newspaper, to me that it better that dying in my sleep and making the obituaries column of the local freebie paper.

Good point. Let's spend our lives in a cave with our head under our bearskin because we're going to die.

You do life your way then.

Retire and enjoy life when you're too young to know what to do, work when you're too stupid to do anything and get educated when you're too old to learn.
