The PS2 can only get better. It is telling exactly the same story as the PSone, in that most of it's games at the moment could be a lot better, even though they are at the pinnacle of gaming- "cough cough Ridge Racer". It will take time for developers to get to know the intricacies of Sony's latest baby, and when they finally unleash some of the PS2's real power, the results will be oh so sweet. And the good news is that it doesn't seem to be too far away on the horizon. Because thanks to Hideo Kojima, the PS2 is going to make a name for it's self even more so, when Metal Gear Solid 2: Son's of Liberty is released later in the year.
Sure, there will be others, such as Gran Turismo 3 etc, but only when MGS2 is released will we have a good idea of what the PS2 is capable of. And thank god it looks good already. Because in my opinion, if MGS2 was to flop, then it could spell an early demise for the PS2. MGS is probably the best game on the PlayStation, apart from possible the Final Fantasy series, and look what it did to that. What I am trying to say is that because of the huge hype behind Konami's master piece, failure could be disastrous. But like I said, that is very unlikely, and in fact, MGS2 is going to make the PS2 BIG. It will be the first big selling game for the PS2, and will probably increase sales 10 fold. By then anybody will be able to buy the console, and with such games on the horizen, the future is looking very good for the little "black box".
This time that the PS2 has now is very important. Because aside from the dying Dreamcast, there is no competition apart from the PSone. Sony have the next generation console market to themselves, and they MUST make the best of it. Because otherwise they could lose their head start to Bill Gates and Nintendo. It's not very likely to be honest, but more surprising things have happened in the past (West Ham beating Man Utd at Old Trafford). It is imperative to bring out the big games sooner rather than later, because if they wait too long, then the impatient people may just switch to the cheaper Game Cube, or the more powerful X-Box. I have no doubt that it will be a tough period for PS2 next year, especially at Christmas, but I believe in them, and hope that they pull through. The console hasn't been so intense since the days of the SNES and Megadrive, but next year when all three machines are out of the starting blocks, the best one will prevail. And I think that Christmas 2002 will show us who the winner is.
By then, the experience developers will have with the PS2 should be at a great level. It would have been two years since the machine was released, and just thinking about the games that will be out by then just makes me wish we were there now. Graphics will be second to none, game play will be top notch, and the only thing I can see holding back all the consoles is the fact that they might just release sequel after sequel. But thankfully, I don't think this will be the case, and new games will new innovative ideas will be unleashed.
So all I can say to those people who diss the PS2, "Why don't you play it properly? Get a good game (ISS, TimeSplitters) and PLAY it. You will be amazed. And then just wait a little while longer and you will TRULY be amazed."
The third place is nearing closer as I am writing this, and despite the competition, I can honestly say that now is a great time to be a games fan.
Another good example is Final Fantasy 7 for the PSX, the graphics for the game were not really all that, but what made it so good was the involving storyline and great gameplay.
With the arrivals of the X-Box and the Game Cube not too far away, there going to be alot of competition for the PS2. But it doesn't matter if the games don't look as good, it only matters about the quality of the game.
What you don't realise is that when the X-BOX comes out some people who have the PS2 will buy the X-BOX as well.
Now these people will get more involved with the X-BOX games than the PS2 games because the graphics are just wicked, you get me, they will not be playing their PS2 because of the crap graphics (when comparing with X-BOX)they will be playing with X-BOX.
These people would realise that they have just wasted their money.
So you must be pretty stupid to buy PS2 and X-BOX.
One of these will be neglected and money will be wasted.
I admit I used to dream of getting the PS2 but when I heard X-BOX was coming out next year I thought to myself no way am getting the PS2 now.
So I haven't.
Look at the N64 games available, Nintendo's quality over quantity although frustrating it brings the goods!
MGS 2 is just the cream of the crop for you but you need to look at other games first to fill the hole, don't go and hype it, when you still have other games which are pretty good.
For the PS2 this may not be the best year for a quantity of games but it needs to follow Nintendo's quantity idea if they are going that way.
"I just have one question to ask someone why do characters look pale in most PS2 games?
I think its the machine it does not recognise alot of colours but please correct me if I am wrong."
You are wrong. I don't know where you got this idea from, but the characters aren't pale and if they were it'd mean that the PS2 recognised loads of colours as it requires more complex colours to make things look pale.
"Another thing I want to mention is the G-Force3 graphics card is going to be better than the PS2 graphics and from this you can see PS2 is getting thrashed by Microsoft."
Hmmm. I'm not so sure, the recent 'Gamestock' shots have disappointed and don't look even, in some cases as good as forthcoming PS2 releases... Maybe things'll change, but so will the quality of PS2 games
But when you compare it with the X-BOX then my friend its a different story and I just feel sorry for those who bought a PS2 and now they won't have money to buy the X-BOX I laugh at you as you laugh at us! (The people who have not got the PS2).

Sony are working on PS3,its going to be a brilliant console but I wouldn't be supprised if Microsoft do better that.
"Come on Bill Gates lets beat Sony!"
