Right.

Basically, I'm 18, and I'm looking for one of these for ease of conveniece; making paying large amounts of money for things like petrol and that, on a regular basis, a lot simpler and hassle-free (I hate the thought of being seen, alone, with £50-odd in my back-pocket!).

I currently have a Current Account with Nationwide. But, after applying for a Credit/Debit card with them I found that I do not meet their "standards" set on only my part-time wages.
I do plan on working more 'full-time' sometime next year, but I really don't want to wait that long; for conveniece's sake.

So, if anyone has been in a similar situation to me; or if you know of any banks that might be able to give me what I want, I'd be grateful if you could give me some advice and help.

At the moment, I'm thinking of going with First Direct, since my mum reckons she can persuade them to take me. But what do you think?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

And ironically, I didn't get a graduate account. Despite having graduated.

Amusingly, I have a graduate account, despite not having graduated.

Im with the halifax, i have a student current account and got a switch card without even having to provide my employers details. Infact they didnt even ask if i had a job at all. Although it is where my student loan will (eventually) be paid to.

Okay, thanks.

Yeah, I think a Debit card will do me fine for the next couple of years until I move-out or something.

Thanks.

Depends. If you take out cash, it's instant, if you use it to buy something in a shop, it depends on how quickly that store processes it. Most notable stores do tis quickly, and a 24 hour turnaround is not uncommon, longest I've seen is about 3 working days.

Debit Card: a card with which you can withdraw cash from your current account and/or buy things on the internet/at a shop counter.

Credit card: a card with which you can withdraw cash and/or buy things with money you dfon't have, and pay it back at an extortionate interest rate.

Debit/Creidt card: Like a debit card, only accepted as a Visa card, and (until recently) more widely accepted abroad.

I wouldn't mind that. I'd rather the money was gone right-away, rather than having to plan what I can-and-can't spend at certain times.

And, at my age, it's not like I'm gonna be spending thousands in one-go, anyway.

Credit Cards are useful for buying things at the ned of the month when you have no money left, and paying for them at the beginning of the month when you have just got your wages.
