The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Over the coming weeks we are upgrading our search engine. It's having a triple destructurisation operation and invisible lurking terms enhancements.
The prize will go to the person who finds the MOST VALID PROBLEMS across our WHOLE PRODUCT RANGE in the SEARCH FACILITY.
If you think you should be able to search on "Horror Movies", but nothing comes up, then add it to your list.
If you think people will mis-spell gran turismo, then add that too - but test it first.
Use short lists if possible but multiple posts will count together. i.e. all your posts on this subject will add up and count towards the prize.
Closes 9 am on April 1st, 2001.
I recommend you read the details of our searching process which you can click to from a link at Site Map. Basically we use the start of a word, so a search on "thunder" will find "thunderball". If several words are combined it must find all.
And Sniper, I wasn't being sarcastic.
Sniper wrote:
What if you had genre types for some searches so if you type in football you get a list of footie games, filter out the format of games to get the game you are looking for.

I agree with Sniper.

Great idea you deserve to win no wait I already said this idea huh either way.
Now I wasn't going to get pedantic about this, I'm sure when Sniper wrote this it's because he thought it was a good idea, there was no need for Dringo to attack him with an "I said this first" response.
Now I have to get stupid. Re-read the whole thread from the start and look. Was Dringo the first to suggest searches by genre, or putting in the genre to get games listed that suit?
No? Who was then?
PSX searches:
Nothing for "EA Classics" Though there are 21 products from "E/A classics"!
I may not be a Roman, but surley "Final Fantasy VII" should return FF7, not 8? At least IX works!
The "Rainbox 6" problem is on this platform too.
"Wrestling" again doesn't return any WWF titles, and that stupid word "rulz" also appears on the PSX.
"Revolt" again.
"The 5th Element" doesn't get me to the fifth element.
"Ms Pacman" gives a blank, not Ms Pac Man Maze Madness.
Nothing for "Special ops" it has to be "spec ops"
"Pipe Mania" and "Pipe-Mania" draw blanks, when it's Pipemania I wanted!
I assume the 'n' in "Trick 'n' Snowboarding" is for and, but a search for "Trick and Snowboarding" reveals nothing!
"Sno cross Championship Racing" doesn't work for all of the same searches that it does on the DC version! Ie it won't accept it as Snow rather than Sno, and you can't have it as "snocross".
No "Xmen" again!
"poy-poy" and "poy poy" are fine. "poypoy" however, draws a blank.
"v.beach" does, but "v-beach" doesn't reveal VBeach Volleyball
No "Super man" or "Super-man" But you have Superman.
Why does "Q*Bert" work, but not "Q-Bert"?
"v 2000" = nothing! Not 'v2000'.
"321 Smurf" doesn't work! "3 2 1 smurf" and "3.2.1 smurf" Do!
No "Eldorado" Only "El Dorado"!

"Rainbow 6" brings up Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, but not the original Rainbow Six.
Nothing in this game for "ECW Anarchy Rules" Oh that's because they called it ECW Anarchy Rulz.
"Mister Driller" makes a comeback to also haunt the DC.
"Jojos bizarre adventure" returns nowt, rather than Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure.
A blank for "VRally" and V-Rally" "V Rally" is fine though.
When looking for Sno -cross Championship racing I tried both "Snowcross" and "Snocross" neither of which worked.
"4 by 4" and "4 x 4" don't work. It has to be "4x4" For 4X4 Evolution.
