I am watching a documentary television show on Channel 4 right now called The Matrix Defence. It is about how some individuals in America have taken it upon themselves to murder others. Later however it has been claimed that they comitted these murders due to being strong influence from the movie The Matrix.

I do believe that they have been influenced by The Matrix. I am not saying that The Matrix is to blame for the murders, I am not saying any of the cast or WB is responsible and so on however the people who have taken it upon themselves to murder others do have mental problems making them highly influencial so it is no surprise that when watching such a film they get murderous ideas in their heads.

Yes it is entirely their own fault but I do not think that their argument is entirely without merit. They have been influenced by this movie and therefore it is not entirely their own fault although I fully agree that it is their mental problems that are the root of the problem and not the movies.

Anyway that is my view on the subject, how about you?

Yes let's forget about films based on history it's not like we can learn anything form History or anything...

Hey look at that Austrian with a funny moustache I wonder who he was, reminds me of some comedian, so obviously he must've been a good guy...

I was just putting forward how you could see it, I didn't say I didn believe those things. Hence the "maybe" in my post. I do think there is something in the argument though. Found my myself arguing that point in a debate the other day, because I couldn't be bothered to get up and move to the other side. I'm worried that I've convinced myself.

This is momentous Blank is actually taking my side.

I would also like to say that two wrongs don't make a right so although violence, wars and so on were around before films just because we can now project them on big screens doesn't make them any more or less acceptable. They are still a bad influence on the influential.

There aren't more. It's just the reporting of such events has become more widespread. It's like people saying there are more muggings and rapes then there used to be, they're just reported more now. Also police techniques and society's ability to look after itself has improved over time and this means that more rapes and muggings are dealt with, reported and the perpetraitors brought to justice (Although not in a Judge Dredd style YET).

True but there was war, violence and nutters way before film.

Yes, but what you're forgetting is that you can't tell who the affects ones will be before they're affected. Sure, most people won't murder, rape and pillage after seeing a video nasty, but that small minority are still there and are undetectible.

Let me direct you all to the rubbish reasons for taking Child's Play 3 off the shelves a while back.

I've seen it. Have I kidnapped a baby and put it on some train tracks? No I have not.

I've seen Natural Born Killers. Did I feel like killing people after I'd seen it? No more than usual. ;)

If you cannot distinguish between fiction and reality then you have a problem, a problem which may be enhanced by fiction but ultimately the fiction is not at fault for something that is wrong with YOUR head.

I saw some of this. What made me laugh was the one who left a note and signed it "Me (Matthew, The One, Neo, The Antichrist)"

None of them had a history of mental health. One of them was described as a bit of a loner but that was dismissed, someone was described as a troubled kid who got bullied but that was disregarded and another was simply defiant of his parents but that was just disregarded as a family fight. One of them did have a history of mental health problems in his familly though. Unfortunately he was adopted and therefore never knew his Dad, Mum and Brother all had mental health problems such as Schitzophrenia(sp?) and Acute Paranioa.

As for these simply being noticed I think that is quite a stupid comment to make as if people noticed half the things that people were doing and saying, then there would be a lot less people commiting suicide and it being a complete shock to the familly etc.
