What a horrible disappointment.

The soundtrack is nothing above poor, and the graphics are vibrant but mostly lack detail. The courses are, on the whole, poorly designed and incredibly short-lapped. There's a distinct lack of options, and battle mode is brought down by the awful arena design and unforgivable lack of bots. The gameplay is generally good, but too slow, especially now F-Zero GX is released.

This seems to mark a worrying trend for the series; this is worse than Mario Kart 64, and that wasn't as good as the original. Even Crash Team Racing, a PSOne game and a blatent rip-off, has better design in some respects. I see no explanation other than the fact that this was rushed out to give sales a boost at Christmas. Oh Nintendo? What have you done?

A shame. But these are first impressions, and I have only played about an hour and a half. Perhaps I'll grow to love it. At present however, it IS good, but only around 6-7/10.

I agree with Maverick on this one.

The game does feel slow, and very repetetive.

There is also a lack of originality. Single player is a moan, like Mario Party 4, you jsut gotta slog your way through it.

However, i am impressed with the multi-player... That is mad :D

Anyway, i love the game.

I would type more, but Daisy's Cruise is calling me back for more.

I found Mario Kart 64 the best in the series and this game trumps that.

Fantastic.

the multiplayer is fantastic and thats only with 2 players! So 4 player will be great! Excellent game, well worth my £51 for Limited edition GC pak + platinum MK box from game (they just handed the box to me lol) + Resi, so not bad for the money (i traded some games in), my gf has got me some new games to for xmas so i can't wait to see what they are!

I really don't think it's a horrible disappointment. Sure, there could have been so much more from the single-player area of the game, but it's still not bad, and that's what's important. Speed-wise, when you're playing on 150cc, it isn't slow at all - far from it. And I happen to like most of the soundtrack; numerous times I've found myself whistling along. Maybe there aren't enough varying songs, but of the ones that are there, they're certainly catchy.

To really unlock the full potential of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, you need to play in multiplayer. Single-player is good (notice how I say good, and not amazing), but the multiplayer is, definitely, amazing.

I think it's a great game - rushed out, possibly, but as most people are saying, it's still wonderful.

The only thing it's missing to me is:

- 8 more courses
- 8 more characters (including Toad DAMMIT!
- Single Player Battle & Possibly a liscensing part of the game...like Gran Turismo or Konami Krazy Racers

Bare in mind i've been playing only just 2 hours (a lot of time on time trial too) so i haven't had a chance to experience Extra Tracks and/or Characters. If there are 8 more of each i'm sold!!!
