Ok i'm 16 and i'm employed.

Received my pay-packet today and found I got charged Tax. Now correct me if i'm wrong - but I swear i'm not to be charged tax until I turn 18.

My parents say I should be ble to claim it back - But I dunno where to start/who to contact.

So I put this predicament forward to the forum - can anyone help?

16?!!

Hahaha! Sorry.

I think that you have to pay tax since you have a national insurance card.

The first £4000 you earn per fiscal(tax) year, you should only pay 10p per £1 earned. After that is earned (per year) the rate goes up to 20p per £1.

Make sure you fill out a P60 tax form that you should get from your employer. If you haven't done so, do it now. If you've been paying over the odd in tax, you should get a rebate from the tax man for the period you were charged too much. Alternatively, the tax office may decide to charge you a much lesser rate of tax for the period you were paying too much tax in order to bring your tax repayments into life.

It should be something close to that, or maybe it was £4000. I am not sure, but what you want to do is probably go down to your local post office or the bank/building society where your money was payed into. They should be willing to give you a form or some advice.

Yeah I got charged tax too. The tax office should notice and correct the problem, and pay you the money back. If not, get in touch with them and tell them you shouldn't be paying tax. I'm gunna wait a while to see if I can get my money back in one biggish lump sum.

If you earn less that £2000 in a year, you can claim back the tax that they take off.
So yeah, you can get the money back.
