C'mon, who's seen it? It was on skyone last night and I loved it. It really is freaky, when the dog is is with the other dogs and it just has that look, HOW DO YOU GET A DOG TO ACT!?

The make-up was good, brilliant by 1982 standards, and personally i think it beats Alien by a long shot.

Also lots of fire, lots and lots of fire.

It was on last night, and my housemate had never seen it before. I greatly enjoyed the looks of sheer horror on his face throughout!

The Thing is awesome. There are no moments in the film where I question a character for doing something dumb and the acting is superb.

"Why were they shooting at us?"

"Maybe we are at war with Norway".

Classic.

From Outpost31.com

"The Norwegian dog was played by a half-dog, half-wolf hybrid named 'Jed'. He acted all his parts eerily well and was extremely quiet and well-behaved on the set."

Creepy.

Aye, I bought the game. Its entertaining enough, but I hate the way they have changed the alien into a virus that can be controlled, McReady's reappearance (bang at the end) and the standard "Oh, the player has nearly finished the game in three days, lets make the last few levels SOLID"

The Thing is amazing. Seen it WAY too many times for it to have the effect it did the first few times (first saw it when I was about 8, whilst on holiday, at about 1am, in a freezingly cold room) THAT was an experience, I can tell ya.

The game... well... I played it a bit, got up to a certain level then lent it to my mate and haven't seen it since. It was OK, I guess.

For paranoia and claustrophobia, the thing is far superior. For gore, the thing is far superior.

The thing is a great film, but I still find it uncomfortable to watch - that dog is seriously creepy when it is skulking round early on.

Superb stuff, and along with Escape From New York, John Carpenters finest hour.

The Thing rules.
"It relies too heavily on gore"?
*pushes tongue into bottom lip and smacks with fingers*
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuh

It relies on paranoia, suspense and fear.
The blood test, McReady holding them all at bay with a flame-thrower etc etc. It's fantastic.
And has my favourite bit of audience-reflecting dialogue from Keith David, having seen the head come off and scuttle away:
"You gotta be ####ing kidding me..."

Exactly. "Cabin Fever" is in a similar vein (although poorer) and even lifted the "We should prepare our own meals" line from "The Thing"

The McCready patent blood test (r) sequence still rates as one of the most pant splittingly tense scenes I've seen.

"Are you gentlemen finished or am I going to spend the rest of winter TIED TO THIS F****** CHAIR!!!!!!"

Hmmm, I might watch it again soon to be honest.

The chest / mouth rates as one of my biggest "urg" moments, nearly as bad as the first alien chest burster.
